CISD Informed — Dec. 19, 2024
Dear Coppell ISD Community,
As we prepare to wrap up the fall semester and head into the winter break, I want to take a moment to reflect on all we’ve accomplished together and express my gratitude for this incredible community.
This semester has been filled with successes, from academic achievements to profound and enriching learning in classrooms, incredible fine arts performances, accomplishments and creations, athletic victories and demonstration of teamwork, and more. We have also faced challenges, including extremely difficult and emotional decisions related to our budget and finances. Yet through it all, our ability to work together and the heart of what makes Coppell ISD special — our exceptional teachers, amazing students, engaged parents, and supportive community — remains strong.
I want to thank everyone who has made this semester such a success. Your dedication to our students and commitment to our shared mission of educational excellence inspires me every day.
As we head into the holiday season, I hope you take time to rest, unwind and rejuvenate. Enjoy this time with family and friends, creating memories and celebrating the season’s joy. May your holidays be filled with love, laughter and peace.
Thank you for being part of what makes CISD our collective home. I look forward to seeing you in 2025, as we continue working together to make a difference for our kids.
Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah and Happy New Year!
Sincerely,
Dr. Brad Hunt

Complete CISD Family/Schools Relationships Survey by Dec. 20
Each semester, CISD surveys our families on their relationships with their child’s school. The Fall 2024 CISD Family/Schools Relationship Survey is open now through Friday, Dec. 20. To participate, visit go.coppellisd.com/Fall24FamilySurvey, then select your child(ren)’s school. If you have multiple children in CISD, we ask that you take the survey for each school your child attends. Please email input@coppellisd.com, if you would like to share any additional feedback or insight not covered in the survey or have any additional comments to share with the district.
Attendance Matters: Scheduling Doctor’s Appointments
Pro Parenting Tip: When scheduling dentist and doctor appointments, opt for times outside of school hours whenever possible. If afternoon appointments are necessary, ensure they do not require your child to be marked absent for the day. Get a note from the doctor to document the absence. Thank you for helping us prioritize attendance and support your child's learning journey.

Ed Foundation Grant Patrol Brings Good Tidings and Cheer
There were smiles for miles as the Coppell ISD Education Foundation made its way through CISD campuses on "Grant Patrol" awarding funds raised through the Give 4 Grants campaign to teachers who submitted classroom grants. CEF's Give for Grants campaign concluded in November, raising $59,504.22 through public and individual donations, with an additional $4,100 contributed by local PTOs and booster clubs who partnered with the campaign resulting in a total of $63,604.22 for the campaign. This marks a record fundraising effort for the campaign, which will directly support teacher grants across the district. CISD extends our sincere gratitude to the Education Foundation and its dedicated volunteers, whose sole mission is to raise funds to benefit our students and educators. Their continued support plays a vital role in enriching educational opportunities within our district.
It Just Clicks: Gooden Inspiring Creativity, Connection Through CHS9 LEGO Club
Story by CHS senior Sahasra Chakilam and courtesy of The Sidekick student newspaper at CHS. The Sidekick is a Career and Technical Education Program of Study in the Communications Area. Photo courtesy of CHS senior Sukirtha Muthiah.
Sitting in a doctor’s office at age 4, CHS9 student Sean Gooden gazed at a portrait of the New York City skyline. As soon as he got home, Gooden recreated the image with LEGO bricks, from the Empire State Building to the Twin Towers, all from memory. Gooden’s LEGO brick creations do not stop there: Notre-Dame de Paris, Taj Mahal, the solar system and even a working roller coaster; he is a master builder.
For Sean, LEGO bricks are more than just toys. Diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder at age 4, he struggles with maintaining focus. Yet, since childhood, LEGO bricks have served as an outlet for his creativity and ingenuity. Through teaching his niece, Evie Gooden, how to build with LEGO bricks, Sean discovered a knack for teaching others. So, he decided to part with his old LEGO sets and brought them to school, where he started the LEGO Club at CHS9.
As a Coppell ISD Transitional Pathway Learner, Sean asked special education teacher Kara Lindquist to sponsor the club. Having seen Sean’s passion for LEGO bricks firsthand while he played with them during school hours, Lindquist was eager to help.
“LEGOs help build communication and add more description for Sean as to what’s happening in his day to day life,” Lindquist said. “I was all for it. One of the big things that I try to push with my learners is to get involved to go out of their comfort zone. For me, this was a 100% yes.”

New Tech’s 10th Annual Slamming for a Cause Event Benefitting Assistance League
On Dec. 10, the New Tech High at Coppell Class of 2028 hosted the 10th Annual Slamming for a Cause poetry event, with proceeds benefiting the Assistance League of Coppell. During the evening, 9th-grade "rookie" learners performed original spoken word poems addressing global human rights issues and organized an auction to raise additional funds. Guided by teachers Janelle Bence and Danae Boyd, this legacy project encouraged students to think critically, write creatively and engage in community service.
Denton Creek Elementary Structured Learning Students Shine at Holiday Craft Sale
Under the guidance of teacher Beth Reynolds, Structured Learning students at Denton Creek Elementary showcased their creativity at the annual Holiday Craft Sale, now in its fourth year. Held in December, the event gave staff a wonderful opportunity to purchase handmade holiday creations, while also promoting students fine motor, social and financial literacy skills. This year, students at CMS North were also able to participate in the sale. With each unique craft, these talented students not only spread holiday cheer but also honed valuable skills, making the sale, which is supported financially by the Denton Creek PTO, a cherished tradition at the school.
Wilson Rangers Shine in Coppell Lions Club Holiday Food and Toy Drive
Wilson Elementary Rangers truly outdid themselves this year, playing a key role in the Coppell Lions Club Holiday Food and Toy Drive led by first graders. Under the guidance of their teachers, these young learners worked tirelessly to collect a total of 643 cans, contributing to a remarkable cause. Thanks to their efforts, nearly 100 local families received 75 pounds of food each, along with toys for the younger children and gift cards for older kids and families with special needs. With three tons of food collected in total, Wilson Rangers helped make the holidays brighter for many in the community, earning the heartfelt thanks of the Coppell Lions Club.
Run Run Mustangs: Reindeer Run Fun at Austin Elementary
On Dec. 13, Austin Elementary’s Mustangs had their Reindeer Run, and it was an event filled with jolly and fun. The school was filled with excitement as students trotted, trotted, and trotted some more in the festive color run, all while grooving to the beats of a lively DJ. The highlight of the day? Principal Kristan Perryman and Assistant Principal Brianna Sanford — dressed in inflatable reindeer costumes — took part in the run, spreading holiday cheer and encouraging the students to run, run Rudolph all the way! With plenty of color, laughter and holiday spirit, it was a reindeerly good time that helped raise funds for the school while bringing the community together in a deer-lightful way.
East Santa Experience Brings Holiday Cheer to CMS East Students
On Dec. 19, CMS East students were treated to the highly anticipated East Santa Experience, a day filled with festive fun and community spirit. In celebration of the season, students participated in a variety of engaging sessions including crafts, singing, reading, a campfire with s’mores, and games like chess, sports trivia, volleyball and more. They also enjoyed a grade-wide celebration to mark the final day before winter break. Teachers and staff worked together to create a memorable experience, allowing students to choose which sessions to attend. Special thanks go to CMS East Principal Melissa Arnold and her team of teacher elves for orchestrating such a joyful event, bringing the Bronco community together to kick off the holiday season in style.
