The Riverwalk Roar: January, 12 2025
A Note from Dr. Compton
Happy Sunday, Pride!
I hope everyone had a great weekend and that you and your family had the chance to enjoy a few moments playing in Friday’s “snow.”
As promised last week, I wanted to share with you my One Word for 2025. After spending a few weeks reflecting and “trying out” different words, I’ve settled on Growth.
It’s a simple word, yet it captures so much of what we strive for here at Riverwalk Academy—not just for our students, but for our staff, families, and community.
Growth is about more than getting better grades or reaching milestones; it’s about embracing challenges and learning from every experience. For our students, growth might mean mastering a new skill in math, discovering a passion in art or music, or developing the confidence to raise their hand in class—or even the courage to do the right thing when no one is watching. Every step, no matter how small, is a building block for their future success.
For our staff, growth is about continuously learning and refining our craft to provide the best education possible. Whether it’s collaborating to enhance our PBL approach, attending professional development, or reflecting on ways to connect more deeply with students, we are committed to growing as educators and leaders.
As a school community, we are growing together. Each day, we strengthen the bonds that make Riverwalk Academy a place of belonging and support. From cheering on our student-athletes to celebrating academic achievements, we are reminded that growth is not a solo journey—it’s one we take together.
Growth isn’t always easy. It can be uncomfortable, even messy at times, but it’s through these moments that we find our greatest opportunities for transformation. I encourage all of us—students, staff, and parents—to lean into growth this year. Celebrate the progress, no matter how small, and remember that every effort counts.
Thank you for being a part of our Pride and for joining us on this journey of growth. Together, we’re building a brighter future, one step at a time.
In Pride and Purpose,
~Dr. Compton
The energy was electric as our Riverwalk staff lined up for the epic finale of the PTO Penny War! The challenge was on for students: raise a set amount by the end of the event, and if they hit the goal, several staff members would face off in an intense Mario Kart-style bike race around the traffic loop! Cheers erupted as grade levels gathered to support their favorite competitors, creating a thrilling atmosphere. And, after all the high-speed action, the road was cleared of any leftover banana peels and turtle shells just in time for dismissal!
Riverwalk Academy is excited to fill the Winthrop Coliseum for the Eagles basketball game on February 1st. Please use this link to purchase your tickets. As a fundraiser we will receive 50% of the ticket sales through the link.
