LGS FAMILY MONDAY MEMO

Veterans day falls on Saturday, November 11th. We will observe Veterans Day on Friday, November 10th in the Loomis Union School District. The staff and students here at Loomis Grammar School would like to thank all of the brave men and women who have served, and who are serving, in all branches of the armed forces. Thank you for the all of the sacrifices you make to protect our freedom, and make the USA a GREAT place to live and grow!

Congratulations to our seventh and eighth grade leadership team are in order. Under the direction of Melissa McCormick, their homecoming float took first place in the Del Oro Homecoming Parade this past month. Special thanks to all of the families who donated boxes, time and energy to help create our amazing Minecraft float!

Our Lost and Found is overflowing with jackets, hats, gloves, water bottles, and other items. Please drop by the main office to see if any items belonging to your Falcon are part of our vast accumulation.

With the help of Jessica Mosqueda , an LGS parent, Loomis Grammar held a "Dia de los Muertos" celebration on November 2nd. Some pics from their celebration can be found below.

Typically, "Dia De Los Muertos" (Day of the Dead) is a two day holiday that takes place on November 1st & 2nd. It is widely observed in Mexico and a handful of other Latin American countries, and it reunites the living and dead. Families create ofrendas (Offerings) to honor their departed family members that have passed. These altars are decorated with bright yellow marigold flowers, photos of the departed, and the favorite foods and drinks of the one being honored. The offerings are believed to encourage visits from the land of the dead as the departed souls hear their prayers, smell their foods and join in the celebrations! If you need to leave your vehicle for any amount of time while at LGS, please park in a regular parking space. Thank you for not parking in the loading/unloading zone along the curb. Your cooperation is very much appreciated!

Our canned food drive is in full swing through the end of this week. Bring in your canned and non perishable items to help feed hungry families in and around the Loomis Community.

The MandaRUN, which will take place on November 19th, is a family friendly event. The Half Marathon enjoys a unique point-to-point scenic route with gently rolling terrain starting in Auburn at Placer High School and finishing at the Train Depot in downtown Loomis. The 5K route is an out-and-back from the Train Depot in Loomis. Click HERE for more information, or to register for this year's MandaRUN.
