PEEK AT THE WEEK

Staff Luncheon: You are cordially invited to attend the End of Year Staff Luncheon at Hahn on Thursday, June 20th at 12:15 p.m. Many of our teachers have been nominated for Teacher of the Year and several put in for DEF grants. Come enjoy lunch, celebrate retirees, cheer for your colleagues and enjoy a fun afternoon.

This week, Michelle Edwards met with our Early Learning office staff, Lori Peppin and myself. Michelle made some updates to the Early Childhood Education tab and the Cardinal's Nest Page and DCER tab. Please make sure that you visit the Cardinal's Nest webpage so that you can be familiar with the content and be able to assist families with online registration for the Summer Camp, Fall CN preschool, GSRP preschool, and Davison latchkey services. A few of the changes that were made include:

• Old registration and payment information taken off the site
• Davison Latchkey removed from the Early Childhood tab and moved to the DCER tab
• Online registration directions for Cardinal's Nest, GSRP, and Latchkey
• Specifics and registration for the Lil'Cards Summer Camp added to the Cardinal's Nest page
• Pictures added

There were also a few more formatting changes made to make the page more user friendly. A letter went home to families with registration directions at each latchkey site. Please email the office if you need more copies at your site to send home with parents or to have available when they ask about latchkey registration. Also, just a reminder that the online pre-registration is up for preschool and latchkey. The individual session are not up yet, but will be as soon as our school calendar is approved and official.

The Summer Scoop is right around the corner! On Wednesday, June 19th we will be having a booth at the District's Summer Scoop event held at the Cardinal Stadium to advertise our Lil' Cardinal's Summer Camp and also our Cardinal's Nest and GSRP registration for 2019-2020.

The event will be held from 5:30-7 p.m. at Cardinal Stadium at Davison High School. In case of rain, we will move the event into the high school building. We are hoping for a great crowd and ice cream will be served! All staff that would like to attend are welcome. Please let Lori and Susan know by email if you plan to attend on Wednesday and help pass out our flyers and materials.

Tuesday, June 18th- Full Days for K-12 students, GSRP home visits continue, Full Day latchkey for the week continues for Cardinal's Nest 3 and 4 year olds, PD for Cardinal's Nest teaching staff held at the Cardinal's Nest, and regular latchkey at Hill, Hahn, Gates and Cardinal's Nest for school age kids. Thursday, June 20th- Home visits continue, 1/2 day for K-12, early release latchkey for school age sites, District end of the year luncheon at Hahn starts at 12:15. Staff evaluations with Susan 9:00-3:00.

Friday, June 21st- Last Day for staff! Classroom inventories and other items on check-out list are due, GSRP home visiting records need to be filed.

The beginning of the summer camp is right around the corner! We start week one with two classrooms for 3, 4 and 5 year olds. Teaching teams will be Rachel Meinburg with Sara Harris and Angie Schustock with Petra Herron. The on-site program director position will be job shared by Alicia Bautista and Lindsey Tate. The before, after, and during camp hours office hours of 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. will be staffed by Ann Schell, Emily McKanna, and Debbie Crawford. We have six weeks of lesson plans based on the Creative Curriculum schedule that are full of literacy, math, fun and theme based learning for our kiddos. We will have onsite and offsite field trips and will be offering before and after camp latchkey care. Summer Camp hours run from 9:00-3:00 and Latchkey will run from 6 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. All registration and payment is online and registration deadline are the Thursday before the following week of camp begins (dates in bold).

I truly can not believe how fast this year has gone by. As we enter the last week of school for K-12 and latchkey students, help you kids be successful by keeping normal routines going, even if the activities are a little different. Kids thrive on structure and routines and 'doing' things. I look forward to seeing what creative things you do with them this lat week. Let’s make this last week the best week of the school year!
