Principal Message
Hello Waubesa Families,
We hope this message finds you doing well. Spring Forward is here and while it’s only a 1-hour adjustment, it can be a big deal for our kids. If you’re noticing some changes in mood or behavior this week, be mindful that they’re most likely tired.
We hope you and your family are able to stop by the Waubesa gymnasium this Friday, March 15 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. for “Science Night.” Please be aware that this is a drop-in event which means you can come and go as it fits your schedule.
We also hope to see you at conferences this week. Just a reminder that Related Arts teachers have an open house style of conferences on Thursday, March 14 from 3:30-7:30 pm. Families are welcome to meet with the Related Arts teachers to discuss the exciting activities we have been working on and check in and see how their students are doing. Some of the Related Arts teachers will be located in their teaching space (Such as the Art Room, Music Room, or Computer lab) while others will be in the library (such as Mrs. Evans, Mr. Williquette, Mr. Hartlaub, and Mrs. Lau). We cannot wait to share the Related Arts experience with you and your family.
Personal Electronic Devices Reminder: the expectations at WIS are that students do not access their cell phones or other personal electronic devices (such as smart watches, etc.) during the school day. This can be a distraction to them and other students. If your child brings one of these devices to school, we ask that they turn it off when the day starts and leave it in their backpacks. If you need to contact your child during the day please call our school office, and they will pass along a message. We ask families to refrain from texting or calling your child’s cell phone to avoid distractions for your child and others. If your student needs to contact you for an urgent matter, they can ask their teacher for permission to come to the office and use our office phone to contact you.
As always, please reach out if you have any questions.
All the best!

Kelly Vetter - Associate Principal
Swim Unit Information
Hi families of WIS! In the next few weeks all of our students will have the opportunity to explore the amazing resource we have here in our district known as the Angie O'Donnell Aquatic Center! Each grade level will have a week where they learn about swimming and the great experiences that the pool has to offer us. Here is a brief slide show of the information we will discuss with your student prior to the unit as well as the general swim schedule. Thanks for supporting our students as they explore this great lifelong skill!

5th Grade Vision Screening
On Tuesday, March 19th Health Office Staff trained via Prevent Blindness of Wisconsin will be conducting vision screenings on all 5th grade students. This is a simple, non-invasive test using a Sloan Eye Chart. Families will be notified if the results show any variance from normal range. If for some reason (i.e your student is already screened by an ophthalmologist regularly), you wish your child not to be screened or if you have any further questions, please email School Nurse, Lauren Neesam at NeesamL@mcfsd.org or contact the WIS Health Office (608)838-4673. Please also remind your student to bring their glasses or contacts to school that day, if they wear them!
WIS Families, please review MSD's Lice Policies, found here and linked above. You will find a list of excellent resources under the "Resources" tab in this policy as well as on the MSD Health Service Website, which explains the rationale for our current policies as well as education on prevention, symptoms, treatment and how to reduce the spread of lice. While lice certainly can be a nuisance, it is important to note that lice do not spread disease. Please notify the WIS Health office if your student has been found to have lice, so we can follow up and continue to monitor. If you have any further questions about these policies, symptoms to look for, how to treat lice or seeking tips on how to decrease the spread of lice, please contact District Nurse, Stephanie Peplinski, (608) 838-4679 peplins@mcfsd.org or the WIS Health Office (608)838-4673.
Spring Break
With Spring Break right around the corner and families planning trips to warmer places, the Health Services Department felt it important to share that there is currently an outbreak of Measles in Broward County, FL. Measles is a highly contagious infectious disease that can be transmitted by direct contact with infectious droplets or by airborne spread when an infected person breathes, coughs, or sneezes. Measles is so contagious that up to 90% of people who are in close contact with the infected individual will also become infected if they do not already have immunity. However, full vaccination with the MMR vaccine provides about 97% protection against Measles. Detailed information such as signs and symptoms, treatment and prevention can be found on The Wisconsin Department of Health Services webpage. If you are unsure whether or not your child is up to date on their vaccinations, you can check their status through your healthcare provider or through WIR (Wisconsin Immunization Registry) using their name, date of birth and social security number. If you have specific questions for the MSD Health Services Department, please reach out to District Nurse, Stephanie Peplinski at peplins@mcfsd.org. Stay safe and enjoy Spring Break!

Ramadan
Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar and begins on the evening of March 10 and continues until April 9. During this time, many Muslim followers will participate in fasting by not consuming anything (water, food, medicine, etc.) from sunrise to sunset. Ramadan is more than abstaining from food and drink. It is observed as a time for reflection, community, charity, and renewal of faith.
To encourage an atmosphere of inclusivity and understanding the district is committed to providing provisions and accommodations to students who observe.
All buildings will provide a dedicated space for students to access throughout the day, including during lunchtime.
CEPS - Main office and space will be provided
WIS - Main office and space will be provided
IMMS - Library
MHS - SLC (Library)
All staff have been asked to remain aware of the physical and mental needs connected to fasting.
If you have any other specific needs or requests outside what we are currently providing, please contact your building principal or a member of student services. We value and support our diverse community and as a District, we want to ensure our environment is inclusive, respectful, and committed to student belonging, achievement, and growth.
If you are interested in learning more about Ramadan:
A common greeting during Ramadan is "Ramadan Mubarak" which loosely translates to "Have a blessed Ramadan." Here is how to pronounce Ramadan Mubarak.
