Sawnee Elementary
November 2024
A Note from Mrs. Davis
Dear Sawnee Families,
Fall is upon us! This means even more fun activities in November. We are looking forward to our 2nd annual Fall Festival on November 9th. Please see our PTO section in this newsletter for more details. It is sure to be a fun time! We appreciate their partnership. Then on November 11th, we will host our Veterans Day program. A huge thank you to Ms. Farise Posey for organizing the program. It is always an honor to recognize our Sawnee Family Veterans and thank them for their service.
Exciting Cafeteria news - the Thanksgiving lunch is back! Some may remember this from years ago and we are excited to have it on the menu this year. This special lunch will be on November 20th. If you are planning to eat with your student on that day, please communicate this to your child's teacher so we may be as prepared as possible. Also, please remember you may only eat with your student. We know it is tempting to have friends, but for safety and health reasons this is not permissible. Pictures and videos of anyone other than your own student are also prohibited.
Please remind your students to check the Lost and Found in both buildings. We have quite a collection and hope to get the items back to their owners before Thanksgiving Break. There's even an umbrella!
We love seeing many of your smiling faces in car rider line each day! To make the line as smooth as possible, we are asking for your help. Please start the car rider line at the sign that reads “Afternoon car line starts here." (green star on map) and refrain from parking along the curb adjacent to the parking lot (red line on map). It is important that no vehicles block access to/from the back building for safety and emergency reasons. At 2:40, the car line may then proceed via the usual route through the parking lot and along the curb (blue line on map). Whoever arrives first to car line may move the cones at 2:40 to move forward. We appreciate your cooperation with this change and we appreciate your ongoing support!
As always, if you have any questions, concerns, or just want to give feedback, please do not hesitate to contact us. It is a pleasure to work with all of our families.
Sincerely,
Kimberly Davis
Principal

Kids Heart Challenge
Sawnee Family,
We are so excited that our Kids Heart Challenge event is here! We are so excited to have our Kids Heart Challenge Representative come and talk to our students on November 4th! Our Early Bird event will last from November 4th-10th. Anyone who raises $100 during this time frame gets an extra thank you gift (Wylie & Bingo)! PLUS if you register online during this time frame you will be entered to win a warmie! All donations go to the American Heart Association and they put it to use in our community by providing things such as CPR training, AEDs, helping families in need with sick hearts, and more. During this event, our students will be learning and working on different things they can do to be heart healthy in PE. We would absolutely love for our entire class to register online! (Registration is free.)
The PE department would love some help during the event as well. If you are interested in volunteering your time, please sign up to help here or reach out to Coach McCormick at smccormick@forsyth.k12.ga.us.
Sincerely,
Sawnee PE Department

Digital Citizenship
Forsyth County Schools is partnering with Neptune Navigate to provide lessons focusing on digital citizenship. During the month of November, students will be learning about their Digital Footprint.
We will discuss how students can follow the 3 Ps to safeguard their digital footprint. It’s never too early to start thinking about how your actions online can impact your digital footprint/reputation.
- Privacy – Don’t share private information with people you don’t know (Especially in the video game/online apps setting!)
- Positive – Always be positive when interacting with others online
- Permission – Always get parent permission before looking at, searching, or commenting on anything online
