JOHNSON FAMILY NEWSLETTER
NOVEMBER 2024
PRINCIPAL CORNER
Dear Johnson Families,
We sure have had an incredible month! It’s been very busy for the Rainbow Makers! The progress that our students have made in these three months has been incredible.
By now, everyone is settling in well in their classrooms and getting down to the business of learning. We anticipate a wonderful learning experience for all our students.
Our First Benchmark and DIBELS Testing: I congratulate our teachers, students and parents for doing an exceptional job in getting our students ready to get high achievement in our grade levels with Benchmarks and DIBELS (Dynamic Indicators Basic Early Literacy Skills). Fantastic!
Yearly Custodial Review: We congratulate both our custodians Sonia and Marco for scoring a 93% in cleanliness and presentation of our beautiful school. Excellent work!
October was National Fire Prevention Month, and this year our Family Liaison Ms. Suzette, connected us with Safety Town, a simulation to support water safety, fire safety, seat belt and street safety and much more. We also had our Peter Piper Boo Bash-so many of you joined us to enjoy food and fun!
Our Student Council worked hard to promote Spirit Week, and our student and staff did a great job in bringing the spirit.
November is always a fun month at school, we’ll be diving into all things Fall as we gear up to the busy holiday season. We welcome the change in season and the continuation of the school year. As always, it is my honor to lead our Johnson Rainbow Makers!

JOHNSON SPOTLIGHT
National Principal Month: Here at Johnson Primary, we're all about supporting, celebrating, and cheering on the people who work hard to make their school communities amazing. In honor of National Principals Month, we wanted to highlight Principal Cota who has gone above and beyond to build positive relationships with teachers, students and families to create a stronger school community.
STUDENT COUNCIL
Student Council - October was a busy month for our Student Council. Members surveyed their peers on ideas for our end of the month Spirit Week. During a meeting, these ideas were presented and voted on. Student Council then created posters advertising Spirit Week and shared the results to their peers. Another important task for the month of October was National Principal's month. Johnson Primary is very blessed to have Mrs. Cota as our principal. Mrs. Cota is AMAZING! The Student Council designed posters of appreciation for our fearless leader and presented her with a beautiful gift.
You may have heard our Student Council doing announcements in the mornings. Together with Mrs. Cota, members lead the school with the Pledge of Allegiance, tell us what is for lunch, and share any upcoming information with the school on Mondays, Tuesday, Thursdays, and Fridays.
Junior Student Council - Second Grade members of Junior Student Council came up with ideas for Spirit Week and shared them with peers. Our second-grade council also designed posters of appreciation for National Principal's month. On Wednesdays, our Junior Student Council helps Mrs. Cota with Johnson's daily announcements.
SAFETY TOWN
The Drexel Heights Fire District and Banner Health presented the Safety Town program for kindergarten through 3rd grade students. The visually stimulating and interactive program targets risk areas such as fire and home safety, healthy eating choices, drowning prevention, poison safety, helmet safety, railroad, pedestrian and car safety.
JOHNSON LIBRARY
Hello Johnson Families,
Welcome to Dinovember! At the Johnson Library we celebrate with a weekly post from our Library Dinosaurs who go on adventures. They are currently trapped in the display case and could use some suggestions on how to get out. You can leave your comments on our library website. If you have received a notice from the library regarding missing books, please feel free to contact me about how to replace, pay or common places to find lost books.
Happy Reading!
Ms. Smith
FAMILY ENGAGEMENT NEWS
Family Liaison – Suzette Madril. Hi everyone! I can be reached at 520-908-3805 or come by the office to see me. It has been wonderful to see so many families attend our school events such as the quarterly awards, the Peter Piper Boo Bash and our Friday Rainbow Assemblies in the patio.
What we know: Effective family engagement leads to improved student outcomes, including better academic performance, higher attendance rates, and increased motivation. Schools that prioritize family engagement often see stronger community ties and a more supportive learning environment. TUSD Family and Community Engagement
