Empowered for the Future
Students had the exciting opportunity to explore a wide range of professions during several campus Career Day events! From engineering to healthcare, law to the arts, students engaged with professionals across various fields, gaining valuable insights into the skills and education required for different careers. This event provided a hands-on, real-world experience, helping students connect classroom learning with potential career paths. By asking questions, participating in activities, and learning from experts as well as current San Marcos High School CTE students, students left inspired and better informed about the exciting possibilities that lie ahead in their future careers and course selection. It was a day of discovery and motivation for all! Thank you to everyone who helped make these days successful!

Tomas Rivera Book Award Celebration
The Tomas Rivera Award is a prestigious literary honor established in memory of Tomas Rivera, a renowned Chicano author and educator. The award recognizes authors who have made significant contributions to literature, particularly in reflecting the experiences of Chicano and Latino communities. Tomas Rivera is best known for his impactful work in the 1970s, which often centered on themes of social justice, identity, and the struggles of Mexican-American communities. His most famous work, ...y no se lo trago la tierra ("...And the Earth Did Not Devour Him"), is a novel that portrays the life of migrant farmworkers.
On November 14, SMCISD elementary students from across the district were invited to introduce the 2024 Tomas Rivera Mexican American Children's Book Award winners on the Texas State campus. Thank you to TXST and each awardee for sharing your stories and time with our Rattlers!
