Greetings PSB,
The opening of the 2023-24 school year has been greeted by an unusually warm and unseasonably hot fall.
School leaders have all implemented their heat emergency plans which involves working with staff to relocate staff and students to cooler spaces within the buildings. Additionally, we are working with the Town Building department to ensure that the air systems remain on tonight in an effort to purge the buildings of the warmer air. The Building department is also deploying additional resources (e,g., fans). We continue to follow the guidance of the Brookline Public Health Department which has not declared a heat emergency.
We ask you to ensure that students come to school with water bottles; hydration is key as well as cool, comfortable clothing. We encourage limited physical activity/exertion. We do recognize the strain this puts on students and staff, and we appreciate the flexibility that has been demonstrated and exercised this week.
Should you have additional questions, do not hesitate to contact your school principal.
Sincerely,
Linus J. Guillory Jr., PhD
