Summer Update #2 - July 2024
July 15th, 2024
Summer Blessing for Families 🙏
May we make our homes places of relaxation,
joy, love, peace and safety.
May we be generous and considerate,
not thinking only about ourselves,
but helping others enjoy the blessings of the summertime.
Lord God, Creator of all things,
guide our steps and strengthen our hearts
during these months of summer and vacation days.
Grant us refreshment of mind and body.
May we constantly strive to make a meaningful difference
in the lives of our loved ones and in the world around us
as we enjoy the warm days of summertime.

SUMMER GREETINGS FROM YOUR PRINCIPAL 😎
To my Bruin Family,
Well, there is no doubt that God thinks we are in need of a bit of sunshine this summer! I hope everyone is staying hydrated and finding ways to cool off in this continued heat wave!
I am getting very excited for the fast-approaching school year and am already missing the sounds of students in the courtyard! It was lovely to see many of our Bruins at VBS last week and to hear their excitement on campus.
Please take a moment or two to check out what is going on now and coming up later below! Wishing everyone a safe and restful July! Be on the lookout for our next summer update the first week of August!
Sincerely,
Mr. Ryan Nearhoff

CHURCH HAPPENINGS ⛪
NEXT GENERATION PARISH: CALLED TO RENEW CAMPAIGN
The Next Generation Parish: Called to Renew campaign is progressing wonderfully, with over 200 parishioner families participating in renewing and enhancing our parish church for the Next Generation of parishioners, our students. Together, we have pledged over $3.5 million towards this important initiative. Now is the time to submit your pledge card to the parish office and fulfill your pledge by making a gift online. For more information, visit the link below.
FAMILY MASS SCHEDULE
Once a month, St. Dorothy Catholic School partners with the Religious Education department to present a Family Mass. In this Sunday mass, students are given the opportunity to serve in ministries typically reserved for our adult parishioners such as ushering and serving as lectors. We encourage all St. Dorothy Catholic School families to attend these masses as we continue to build community with our parish! See the 24/25 schedule below.

CHILD SAFETY 🚨
Did You Know?
July 20-21 || Summer safety tips: Designate ‘water watchers’ to care for people around the water
Drowning behavior is typically fast and silent. Unless rescued, a drowning person will last only 20 to 60 seconds before submerging. To prevent drowning, it is best to swim in a lifeguarded area. Always designate a “water watcher” whose sole responsibility is to keep a close eye and constant attention on everyone in and around the water until the next water watcher takes over. In the event of an emergency, reach or throw an object to the person in trouble. Don’t go in or you could become a victim yourself. For more information, visit redcross.org.
July 27-28 || Summer camp volunteers
If your child is participating in a summer camp through your diocesan school or church, likely some — or all — of the staff will be volunteers or young people. In the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, all volunteers who have contact with children are required to go through VIRTUS® training to ensure that they are aware of child safety standards and protection from abuse procedures. Child abuse prevention training programs are critical to ensuring the safety of our children, and volunteer training is one part of this mission. Mission Statement
To educate TK-Eighth grade students in a Catholic environment in which the curriculum emphasizes spiritual, ethical, and social values of the Catholic faith to become responsible and moral citizens within the global community.
Philosophy
Supporting the belief that parents are the primary educators of their children, we as educators at St. Dorothy Catholic School, dedicate ourselves to partner with the parents in preparing children to become contributing members of the community. To achieve this, we provide holistic development in psychological, emotional, social and physical health, with an emphasis on academics, faith, and Christian service.
In collaboration with parents, we champion student achievement through the presentation, practice, and study of Catholic doctrine, a strong academic curriculum, multimedia and multi-cultural experiences, physical education, extracurricular programs, and the dedicated commitment of the teachers and staff.
