MARY-ANGELA'S MESSAGE
Tēnā koutou whānau
This week we have recognised the birthdate of Venerable Meri Hōhepa - Suzanne Aubert, who was a woman of great faith and an important and much loved person in Wellington and across the country. Suzanne founded the Sisters of Compassion - and she was a strong advocate for the poor, the marginalised, children and mothers who were not able to make ends meet.
Here is a compilation of photos from Suzanne Aubert’s working life. The photos of her funeral procession through the centre of Wellington is testament to how loved she was by all.
Suzanne Aubert - New Zealand's Saint in the making
Here is another video that shares Venerable Suzanne Aubert’s work - with some familiar faces that you may recognise!
Remembering those who have died
During this time of Matariki, we take time to remember people who have passed away during the past year, we celebrate the present and we look to our future. Our prayers are with any of our school community who have lost loved ones over the past 12 months.
Angel of Wisdom, guide us
Angel of Comfort, enfold us
Angel of Light, enlighten our vision
Angel of Presence, fill up the gap of absence
Angel of Memories, scatter the ‘seeds of possibilities’
Angel of Hope, encircle, enfold, embrace us
Angel of Homecoming, remember us
(from ‘A Prayer Companion for Catholic Schools in Aotearoa New Zealand)
Take care and God bless over this upcoming long weekend - especially in your family celebrations of Matariki.
Take care and God bless
Ngā mihi nui

MISSION FAIR
The sun shone down upon us as we enjoyed our annual Mission Fair. Massive congratulations to our Ranginui ākonga who put the mahi in to organising and running the stalls. We managed to raise $2680 For Caritas’ He Oranga Taurikura programme. Thank you so much to Tom, Suzanne and Fran for all of the hours of work you put in behind the scenes to make it run so smoothly.
PENTECOST
Pentecost was celebrated this year on 5th June and commemorates when the Holy Spirit descended upon the Apostles. Some Ranginui ākonga created bible art incorporating symbols important to Pentecost. Tangaroa students created fire and wind.
UNIFORM
We have sent home a uniform list for your convenience. This is not an order form. Please place your orders via Kindo.
We will be able to fit uniforms for most children during the school day. If you would like to be present for your child/ren’s fitting, you may book a time during the learning conferences to do this – just select the time when booking the conferences.
Bookings for learning conferences and uniform fittings can be made
at www.schoolinterviews.co.nz and the event code is rddfg
If you have any questions or difficulty booking your conferences, please contact Suzanne or Francesca at the school office.
SFDS LIBRARY ONLINE/ STUDENT LIBRARY CARDS
We have launched our SFDS library website at https://tinyurl.com/SFDS-Library
This week all students have been issued with their own personal library card.
Students will enter their unique ID number from the card into the borrower ID box at the top right hand corner of the home page (no password).
Once logged in they have online access to the school library database from any device, anywhere.
This allows them to:
Use the integrated search engine to find books in the library that they might be interested in, and either reserve it for issuing on their next visit or place it on a personal watch list for later.
Check on their current loans and renew books without needing to bring them back to the library.
Write a review of a book that they have issued and read previously- for other SFDS students to read.
Most children will leave their library cards at home to allow for easy access during out of school hours.
Many thanks to the Board of Trustees for updating our library package and helping to foster and extend reading opportunities for our students.

TEACHER ONLY DAY
We will be having a Teacher only day at the end of term 2 on Friday 8 July. School will be closed so you will need to make other arrangements for this day.
PASTORAL CARE – VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
Thank you so much to those families that supplied meals this week!! Its great to belong to such a loving and giving community who are so ready to help!
Pastoral care explained...
One of the great areas of support here at St Francis de Sales School is our Pastoral care
team. This is an amazing group of volunteers who make meals for our families that are going
through a tough time in their lives. Whenever we have a family that could use a wee bit of extra love and support we send out a call for meals from the list of wonderful families that have put their name down and are happy to whip up a meal or some baking. Meals are dropped off to the office and sent to our families going through crises.
This isn’t a regular occurrence, and you are not obliged to make meals every time the call
goes out, however we do need a few more volunteers to add to our email list.
If you would be interested in offering your support and signing up to be called upon when needed please send an email to Fran on the PSL email psl.sfds@gmail.com

Good for those new to swimming to see if swimming is a sport they would like to get more involved with. Individuals who are already part of a club or swim school are also very welcome to attend.

It is free for participants to attend but an RSVP is needed. There is no expectation for individuals attending to have any skills or experience swimming. We are expecting a range of abilities.
The website lists ‘Disability types : Intellectual, invisible, hearing, brain injury, vision, short stature and various physical impairments’ ‘Age 8+. All levels of water experience are welcome!’
