Jaguar Families,

Back to School Night, Wednesday, August 28:

• Come meet your student's TERM 1 Teachers, Wednesday, August 28.
• The blacktop behind the gym will be open for additional parking.
• Gates open at 5:00 pm. You will be able to buy snacks, refreshments, candy grams, and Student Planners.

• I will give a general welcome and quick slide show in the gym from 5:30 PM to 5:45 PM.
• Classroom presentations begin at 5:50 PM with Advocacy, followed by periods 1-5. All classroom presentations are 10 minutes.
• Your students will come home Wednesday afternoon with a flyer with their schedule and room numbers with a map on the back.
• In addition, Jean Marc Humbert from the FACES program will be on campus in-person to answer any questions from families possibly interested in hosting a French exchange student from October 18-30.

Safety:

• Drivers, PLEASE slow down, stop at stop signs, and do not drive through crosswalks with students and crossing guards in them.
• Students, PLEASE LOCK your bikes and scooters INSIDE the bike rack and NOT to the library fence.

Tips for success:

• Please remind students to always have their student ID card and lanyard with them (visible in a pocket, on their back pack, or around their neck). They NEED the student ID card frequently on campus.
• Check out the TJMS Student Handbook for any questions not answered here (Dress code, Personal Responsibility, Behavior Expectations, Counseling, Attendance, etc.)

Remember, next weekend is a 3 day weekend with NO school on Monday, September 2, in honor of Labor Day. Have a great last week in August!

One way appropriate funding for schools was determined in the past was by looking at percentage of free and reduced lunch applications at schools. Now that meals are free for all, new ways to determine appropriate funding for schools were necessary.

ALL families are strongly encourage to complete the Educational Benefits form. By filling it out this quick and easy form, EGUSD schools will receive funding. The video below provides more information. The form is available digitally in ParentVue and hard copies are in the Student Services Office.

Hello 7th Grade Students!

Hope you had a great 1st week full week of school! We have an amazing, award-winning Band program led by Mr. Souliere! There are still spots in 7th grade Band if you are interested. Here are some important facts about Band:

• Band Programs are one of the most important groups associated with any school.
• All interested 7th Graders are welcome to join, AND you DON'T have to have experience playing an instrument.
• Instruments in Band include Flute, Clarinet, Saxophone, Trumpet, Trombone, Tuba, and many more!
• We perform at Concerts, Festivals, Rallies, Parades, and SIX FLAGS!
• Band is its own community, with a built-in set of friends, including the best students on campus!

We need 3 parents to join the TJMS 24-25 School Site Council. No experience necessary. It involves attending 5 total meetings via zoom (dates below). If you are interested, please complete the nomination form below OR just email Jenny Keyport at jkeyport@egusd.net with your name, your phone number, and your student's name by Friday, August 30. Also include a BRIEF statement about your background and why you are interested in joining. A voting ballot form will be sent in the September 1 Paw Print. Thank you for considering!

TJMS will have a great opportunity for our families to host 6 to 8 French students coming to visit Northern California October 18-30. If you have any interest in hosting a French student, please complete the host application below. Completing the application does not guarantee or commit to hosting. It will let the French facilitator from "FACES", Jean Marc Humbert, know who to contact for more information and for a further information meeting in October before the students arrive.

TJMS Families,

TJMS is classified as a Community Eligibility Program site under the federal meal programs. What that means:

Community Eligibility Program (CEP) versus Standard Meal Claiming: We have two types of meal claiming programs – Community Eligibility Program (CEP) and Standard Meal Claiming. CEP schools are classified based on the number of enrolled students directly certified through a state match and are classified by the need of the school population. The USDA made a change to the CEP threshold, therefore we were able to include additional schools under the CEP umbrella. An attached list is below for your reference.

Now that all schools provide free meals for all enrolled students, there are not many noticeable differences from a school site perspective, however, CEP schools cannot send out Free & Reduced-price Meal Applications (FRMP). There will still be a need to collect FRMP eligibility information on students and the District will be collecting that information through ParentVue.

We are required to notify parents that their school site is classified as a CEP school and the attached notification letter is below in English and Spanish. For more information, go to the website EGUSD School Meals.

WEAR IT WEDNESDAY

Show your school spirit by wearing any Toby shirt or by wearing purple every Wednesday. Staff and students with 3 or more pieces of Toby or Purple Flair (shirt, lanyard, another accessory) can spin the wheel to win prizes outside MC6 at lunch on Wednesdays.

BACK TO SCHOOL GRAMS

Will be on sale in the Student Store Annex at lunch on Wednesday 8/28, Thursday 8/29, and Friday 8/30. They will also be available for parents to purchase at Back to School Night. Grams will cost $1 each, CASH ONLY. We will have 5 designs, that come with different treats. Grams will be delivered to 5th-period classes on Wednesday 9/4.

TOBY TUESDAY 9/3

Save the date, our first toby Tuesday of the year will be Tuesday 9/3! The first Tuesday of every month is Toby Tuesday (our dine-out day)! Help support Toby by dining at Panda Express on 9/3. Do not forget to tell them you are with Toby and we will get a portion of the profits. Bring your receipt to MC6 the next day at lunch for a prize!

WELCOME DANCE

Our first dance of the year will be Friday 9/13 from 3:00-4:30. Ticket sales will begin on Monday 9/9 and will end on Thursday 9/12. Tickets will cost $9 or $7 with an ASB sticker. Tickets will be sold at the Student Store window during lunch. Students MUST have their student ID to purchase a ticket and to get into the dance. Ticket sales for this dance and all items sold at the dance (snacks & drinks) will be CASH ONLY! More details to come.

PBIS FOCUS

We will continue to teach and reinforce our 4 core values in all locations on campus. We will also be discussing showing kindness at school. Teachers will reward students who are meeting our core values by handing out Jag Swag. Families can continue the conversation at home by asking their child(ren) what our core values are at school and how they relate to your values as a family.

JAG SWAG PULL

This week we will have a Jag Swag Pull for the treat truck. Students who are pulled will receive 1 ticket for themselves and 4 to share with friends. The treat truck's menu is always changing but we always have a variety of ice cream, drinks, snacks, and non-food treats too!

Athletic Clearance applications are now accepted for the 2024-2025 Academic Year. Parents/Students must use the Home Campus website to complete the application. A new online Athletic Clearance is needed every academic year.

Every TJMS Student received a FREE custom made Planner! It's beautiful! It was created by TJMS teachers, Jody Hill and Shelby Ganzert. Staff also get one of the planners. It is prefilled with ALL important dates and events. I use it as my personal planner for the year. When my kids went to school here, I would have LOVED to have one for myself. With that thought, we will sell the planners to any family member for $5. Each planner costs about $3.00 for us to make. It's about $5000 for us to make them for all students. Selling them to parents for $5 will also help us to raise the funds to continue making the planners for every student every year.

To help us know how many planners to print, please fill out this Planner Pre-Purchase request. At the first Back to School Night, we plan to have Planners for sale. Those who Pre-register using this form will be guaranteed a planner. We will have more planners available until supplies run out. If interest continues, we can print more at a later date. July to October Student Immunization Clinics
Clinics will be held at both the Newcomer Welcome Center (8661 Power Inn Rd, Elk Grove) and Trigg Education Center (9510 Elk Grove Florin Rd, Elk Grove). All immunizations required for school entry will be provided for students in Preschool through 12th grade wanting to enter into Elk Grove Unified School District. Clinic is by appointment only.
