2 Multilingual Meetings This Week
Multilingual Learner Discussion with Families - Feb. 27
As we work to enhance our Multilingual Education program, we recognize the importance of collaboration with our families. To foster this partnership, we invite you to join us for a family meeting and discussion on Thursday, February 27, at 6:00 p.m. at Richmond Elementary School (300 South 12th St.).
This meeting will replace the regularly scheduled Learning and Teaching and Business Services Committee meetings, which have been rescheduled to March 3 at 5:30 p.m at Lincoln Professional Learning Center, located at 211 South 6th Avenue.
During the Feb. 27th meeting, D303 leadership will provide an update on proposed improvements to our Multilingual Education program. Families will also have the opportunity to ask questions and share valuable feedback to help shape the future of the program. To ensure accessibility, childcare and translation services will be available.
Thank you for your patience and understanding as we’ve reviewed the current program and taken an intentional approach to determining the next steps. If you have any questions about Thursday’s meeting, please contact your principal. Thank you for being a valued part of D303—we hope to see you there!
Assessments, Surveys and AT Placement
5Essentials Survey
We’re writing to inform you that beginning February 18, District 303 students in grades 4-12 will be provided with the 5Essentials survey. Please click HERE for a letter regarding the 5-essentials survey.
5Essentials PARENTS
In addition to student and teacher feedback, the 5essentials survey is also administered to District 303 parents. The Parent Survey is open from February 18, 2025, through March 28, 2025. All responses are confidential and will never be connected to you or your child. To take the survey, visit survey.5-essentials.org/Illinois and select the parent survey. A supplement report will also be generated if at least 20 percent of a school’s parents complete the survey.
ISA (5th grade) and IAR (3rd-5th grade) Assessments
Students in grade 5 at Davis are taking the Illinois Science Assessment (ISA) on March 4-6th in the morning. The Illinois Science Standards are based on the NGSS standards, and the ISA is designed to measure against those standards.
Davis Students in grades 3 through 5 will be taking state tests in English/Language Arts (ELA) on the mornings of March 18-19. This is the Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR)
Click HERE for a detailed letter on these assessments.
Please avoid scheduling appointments or absences on these mornings if possible. You can also help your students have a good night’s sleep and a balanced breakfast before the test dates. Thank you for your support!
AT/Accelerated/Infinity Gifted Program Identification
As we embark on the season of planning for the 2025-2026 school year, the identification process is underway for accelerated placement for next year’s 4th, 5th and 6th graders. Here is some helpful information:
All 3rd grade students are automatically considered for potential placement in Academically Talented (AT) Math and AT ELA programming. You do not need to request it. However, you can reach out to ask questions about the process anytime using the contact information below.
5th grade students are also automatically considered for potential placement in an additional Accelerated Math Pathway that starts in middle school. This pathway provides for the completion of Algebra before entering high school by allowing students to complete more than one grade level of math in 6th grade and 7th grade.
5th grade students who are currently in our AT programming may be identified for potential placement in the Infinity Gifted Program at the middle school level. These students may take part in additional testing in February. Parents will be informed in advance if additional testing is requested.
Families of students who are identified for placement in our AT Math, AT ELA, Infinity Gifted or Accelerated Math programming will be informed by March 28. Please refer to the Identification Timeline for additional information.

This winter, Davis will be embarking on a special project, an all school reading initiative called One School, One Book. Every student will receive a copy of the book Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl. We are encouraging everyone in the Davis community to follow the same reading schedule each night and read along with your family’s copy of the book.
What is One Book, One School?
One School, One Book is a shared reading experience for the entire school. Each Davis family and classroom will receive a copy of the book, along with a reading calendar. We hope to get all families reading the same book at the same time. We aim to build a community of readers at our school.
What do I need to know?
On Wednesday, February 19, your child will bring home a copy of the book and the reading schedule. Chapters 1 & 2 will be read that night.
While we encourage your family to read each night together at home, we know that this isn’t always possible. If you are not able to read as a family, the daily readings will be posted on the Davis One School, One Book website read by a different member of our staff. This provides students the opportunity to participate in the reading in the event that reading aloud as a family is difficult.
We plan to celebrate our shared reading experience together at school on March 13 at our Family Reading Night. We are planning a fun-filled, chocolate themed night to celebrate our love of reading and a successful One School, One Book program!
We are looking forward to sharing this experience with our Davis families. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to our LRC Director, Mrs. Bradley, melissa.bradley@d303.org.
