Our Current Adventure: Fur, Feathers, and Ferns
Takeaways for Cub Scouts in this Adventure:
- Learning about the world of creatures and how we affect our environment.
- Practicing ways to conserve in the world around us.
- A Scout is thrifty.
- While hiking or walking for one mile, identify six signs that any mammals, birds, insects, reptiles, or plants are living nearby the place where you choose to hike.
- Name one animal that has become extinct in the last 100 years and one animal that is currently endangered. Explain what caused their decline.
- Visit one of the following: zoo, wildlife refuge, nature center, aviary, game preserve, local conservation area, wildlife rescue group, or fish hatchery. Describe what you learned during your visit.
- Observe wildlife from a distance. Describe what you saw.
- Use a magnifying glass to examine plants more closely. Describe what you saw through the magnifying glass that you could not see without it.
- Learn about composting and how vegetable waste can be turned into fertilizer for plants.
- Plant a vegetable or herb garden.

Do-At-Home:
High Priority (needs to be completed before the next meeting):
- If you have binoculars please bring them to the next den meeting to use during the nature hike.
- Read through the exercises in the Adult Guide in the front of your Scout's book and update CubTrails that you and your Scout have discussed this booklet in the drop down menu under Bear Rank.
- Each Scout needs to complete their Cyber Chip Requirements @: http://www.netsmartz.org/scouting then update CubTrails in the drop down menu under Bear Rank.
- Parents: Please complete the Youth Protection Training at: https://my.scouting.org/ Just create an account and complete YPT Training online. It is free of cost, and once complete, it is valid for 2 years. Thank you!

Pinewood Derby
Our Pack Pinewood Derby is right around the corner on February 13th! Registration is from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., race begins at Noon! There are several book resources on how-to's and secrets and you can find decals and tools at places like the Scout Shop, Michael's and Hobby Lobby. Also, our Cub Master Troy Sloan will be hosting classes every Saturday between now and the Derby. This is a great opportunity to get some insider tips and have fun!

Mark Your Calendars: Spring Family Camp Out 2016!
Due to a low availability of campsites at Dinosaur Valley State Park, our camp out has been moved to Fort Richardson State Park, in Jacksboro on April 8th-9th, 2016. We are super excited about the Civil War Reenactment going on that weekend!

Announcements and Important Dates from the Pack Meeting (Jan. 18th, 2016)
- We are looking for volunteers for the Pack Committee. If you would like to volunteer, please let us know.
- We are also looking for volunteers to sell popcorn and handmade craft items as part of First Monday Trade Days on January 30th.
- Scout Sunday, February 7th. This is to celebrate all Scouts and give our thanks to the community for their support. Please plan to attend services at either your church or Grace Presbyterian on this day in uniform. Be sure to update Cub Trails- there is a patch for this activity.
- Blue and Gold Banquet is February 27th at First United Methodist Church.
- Webelos Woods is March 4th-6th at Worth Ranch.
- Next Pack Meeting is March 21st at Grace Presbyterian Church at 6:30.
- District Pinewood Derby is in Granbury on March 26th at Classic Chevrolet Dealership. Registration is at 1:30.

Fur, Feathers, and Ferns: Meeting 1
Come join us at Soldier Springs Park to go on a 1 mile Nature Hike! We will observe wildlife and talk about all of the interesting things to see on a hike! Even at night there are amazing things to hear, see, smell and touch. Can't wait to see you there!
**Please note the time change. It only applies to this meeting to allow daylight for the hike.**
