Senior Seminar Speakers
Central Michigan University
by Preston Kuligowski
Owen Gonzales is the speaker that came to tell, teach and answer questions about the college Central Michigan University. He told us about the college's housing, courses, and degrees that you can get and achieve. He also talked about its different sports and clubs at the school.
In my opinion, he did a good job answering most of the questions I had about the school such as cost, room and board, majors and what it takes to get accepted into the school. I did like that he went over all the benefits of being a Central Michigan student like being able to get in the football games. It was also cool that they allow you to keep your car on campus if you live on campus and you can even get an apartment/dorm with your friends if you end up going to the same university.
Overall, I think he did a good job selling and teaching us about CMU. He went over everything I was curious about and made it short and sweet. He also did a good job telling you what you can do on campus, also I did think it was cool that they are D1 in football.
Saginaw Valley State University
by Isabella Weier
On September 26th, Travis W. Slooter came from SVSU to speak with us. SVSU has always been a top college for me. Now that I have heard more about the college, it is still a top college for me. Travis gave us a booklet all about SVSU. Some of the things he went over were their dorms, scholarships, the cost of attending SVSU, and more. He went over the majors but talked more about the price and dorms.
One thing I liked about SVSU is the distance from home it was from my home. It is around an hour to an hour and a half away. For me, that is the perfect distance. I have always wanted to stay at college to get the dorm experience. If I go to SVSU, I can get the dorm experience but I can also drive home on weekends since it is driving distance.
Since I have a 4.0 high school GPA I would get $6,500 towards college each year. That will help me a lot each year paying for college. I also really liked their dorms. Their dorms are ranked #1 dorms in Michigan. First-year dorms have 4 bedrooms, a living room, a kitchenette, and a bathroom. You would only have to share your bathroom with your 3 other roommates.
After the speech, I realized that I like SVSU. They have everything I want a college to have. They also have my major. That is another big reason I like SVSU. They also have a lot of scholarships you can apply for. In conclusion, SVSU is my top choice. I also like how they are the cardinals because Dryden is also the cardinals.
