The Cardinal Connection
R.L. Wright Family Newsletter
October 18, 2024
We look forward to meeting with parents in the upcoming Parent-Teacher Conferences scheduled for the next few weeks. If you haven't already signed up for a conference time, please do so using the link provided below. Open communication between home and school is crucial for supporting students in reaching their full potential.
We have, and will continue to focus on students reading at home this year. Reading every night is more than just completing homework; it's an investment in your child's future. Regular reading helps develop critical thinking skills, expands vocabulary, and fosters a love of learning. It also improves concentration, memory, and understanding of the world around them. By making reading a nightly habit, you're providing your child with a valuable tool that will benefit them throughout their lives.
Thank you for your continued support,
Mrs. Scott

The following guidelines will need to be followed here at school.

Parent's Read-at-Home Plan for Student Success
Remember your child has "homework" every night to read.
What can I do to support my child?
They simply need to read!
Read at home with your child daily (at least 20 minutes) with books they enjoy. Some ways to do this:
• Read out loud to your child.
• Listen to your child read.
• Echo read (you read a line, then they repeat).
• Read together at the same time.
• Reread or retell favorite stories
Talk to your child about the reading As you read:
• Ask your child to share what they remember.
• Ask questions about the reading.
• Talk about your favorite parts
• Talk about what you have learned.
• Talk about how the pictures in the book connect to the words on the page.
• Help connect the reading to your child’s life or other books they’ve read.
Make reading something your family does every day! Keep it simple and enjoyable!
Character Strong
As a school we have been learning about Gratitude. Please talk to your child about all the things they have to be grateful for. The newsletter below can give you a starting point.
The Fall weather is finally here! PLEASE make sure your child(ren) are coming to school dressed appropriately for the day. Layers are a great choice this time of year. We will continue to get students outside for morning laps and recesses if at all possible. In recent years we have let students borrow jackets/coats but this year we are not going to have them readily available. If your student is in need of any winter gear including coats, hat, gloves, etc. please don't hesitate to reach out and we will provide your student with their need through our campus' Cardinal's Closet and our local community resources.
Did you know we have a new Lost and Found? We sure appreciate Mr. Stauth's hard work on this project this summer. It is located in between the office and the multi-purpose room. Make sure to check it out for lost items when you are here for conferences.
