Welcome Back New and Returning Eagle Familia to the 2024-2025 School Year! This year our school theme is "Keep GROWING, Keep GOING!" We are not only growing in size as a community, but are growing and learning from each other in order to ensure the success of EACH of your children. We are looking forward to partnering with you on your child's education. Together we will make this an amazing year!

Arrival Procedures
First Day of School is Tuesday, August 13, 2024
In order to keep our students safe, please be sure to follow the procedures for arrival and dismissal. Due to upcoming construction, adjustments will need to be made to our previous procedures. We appreciate your patience and flexibility! Para mantener seguros a nuestros estudiantes, asegúrese de seguir los procedimientos de llegada y salida. Morning Arrival:
All school doors will open at 7:30. There will be no supervision for students before 7:30. Students are tardy at 8:05. In order to ensure the safety of al our faculty and staff, parents will NOT be allowed to enter the building and walk their children to their classroom. Rest assured that we will have staff on hand to escort students to their classrooms! Dismissal Procedures
The school day ends at 3:15 for PreK and 3:20 PM for grades K - 5th. Students must be picked up no later than 3:45. El día escolar termina a las 3:15 para PreK ya las 3:20 PM para los grados K - 5to. Los estudiantes deben ser recogidos a más tardar a las 3:45.

- PK will be dismissed on Dollarhide in the PK drive up bus loop

- 3rd, 4th, 5th, & BSC will be dismissed in the drive up loop off Rock Glen

During the Meet the Teacher event on August 9th, you will receive information on arrival dismissal procedures. You will also be able to notify your child's teacher how your child will get home during the first week of school. Highland Hills Dress Code
All students PreK-5th grade guidelines:
Students must wear
a shirt, with fabric that touches the waistband in the front and back, on the sides under the arms, and that covers the shoulders with material at least 2 inches wide.
pants/jeans or the equivalent (skirt, sweatpants, leggings, a dress, shorts) no shorter than finger-tip length and free of rips that expose skin or undergarments above the finger-tip line.
Uniforms are optional:
Skirts, dresses, jumpers, shorts, and skorts must be no shorter than 3 inches above the knee.
Tights must be solid black or white.
Blue or white polo shirts and/or blouses with a collar.
Uniform pants, jumpers, capris, skirts, and shorts must be in khaki or black colors.
School Spirit Fridays: Students may wear a Highland Hills school spirit shirt or blue/ yellow each Friday.
Shoes
To ensure student safety, no slides, flip-flops, crocs, or high heels should be worn.
All other shoes are acceptable to wear

Breakfast and Lunch
San Antonio Independent School District offers FREE breakfast to students regardless of family income. The Universal Free Breakfast Program helps to make sure all of our students start the day alert, well-fed, and ready to learn.
PreKindergarten will be served a family-style breakfast in their classroom.
Kindergarten to 5th will have breakfast in their classrooms between 7:30 and 7:45. Students arriving after 7:45 will pick up their breakfast and eat it in their classroom.
Breakfast in the Classroom (BIC) program provides a healthy complete breakfast to every student. Breakfasts are delivered to the students' classrooms where they can be eaten before the school day begins.
The National School Lunch Program is a federally assisted meal program that provides nutritionally balanced, and low cost or free lunches to students. The meals meet strict nutrition standards based on the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010.

Principal Cartwright will be sending out bi-weekly newsletters with important information and upcoming events. Be sure to read them weekly!
We will be using the Class Dojo App to send out texts with updates and event flyers. For pictures of our events, student activities, and other celebrations, we will be using Facebook and Instagram. Be sure to Like our page and Follow Highland Hills Elementary!

Meet the Teacher
Friday, August 9th from 5:00-6:30 p.m.
Meet the Teacher is one of our most important events of the school year. It will be yours and your child's first introduction to their teacher and classroom. It will help to calm their back to school anxiety in a safe and welcoming way. Your child's teacher will be contacting you in advance so that you know which class to go to. There will also be rosters posted in hallways so that you can easily find the classroom. Parking areas will be designated with signs, so be on the lookout! If you have any questions, please call 210-438-6860. Can't wait to see you all!
Afterschool Challenge Program
For SAISD campuses served by the Greater San Antonio (GSA) All-Stars program, in-person registration will commence on August 5, 2024, from 3:30 PM – 6:00 PM at the campus cafeteria. Registration will continue daily until August 14, 2024, or until all allocations are filled. The SAISD After School Challenge Program will begin on August 19, 2024, but it is contingent upon meeting a minimum enrollment of 30 students at each campus.
The program continues to provide students with homework and academic support, hands-on STEAM activities and recreational experiences including participating in the iPlay Soccer Tournament this fall. Volunteers
HHE 24-25 Volunteer Application Now Open! There are so many opportunities throughout the school year to support the students, faculty, and staff at HHE. Be sure to get your application in now to join our community.
We are also looking for parents to join our NEW HHE Parent Ambassador Program. We will be selecting ONE parent from each class to support classroom activities, projects, etc. for the 24-25 school year. If you are interested, please sign up with your child's teacher during Meet the Teacher or contact out Family Engagement specialist, Deborah Jimenez at djimenez4@saisd.net.

Goal is 96%
Attendance during the 2024-2025 school year is so important to your child's academic success! When your children are on time and present, the have the opportunity to learn and grow every day. We will have incentives throughout the year for students with Perfect Attendance. Please support this by bringing your students to school on time, every day. Thank you for all you do!
Highland Hills PTA
We welcome all parents to participate in our Highland Hills Parent Teacher Association (PTA). Please mark your calendars and make plans to attend the monthly meetings held the first Tuesday of the month.
