Dear Parents
Welcome back to Term 2, a term that has definitely started in a very unique way.
At the outset I sincerely want to thank our community and the staff at Jurien Bay District High School. The support we have received and the way staff have adapted has been fantastic. All of our staff (even those deemed by the Chief Medical Officer to be vulnerable) have insisted on being at work and the quality of the first work packs prepared was outstanding. I have heard some very different stories from colleagues but in all everyone at our school has been understanding and positive throughout.
We currently are catering for students at school and those who are remaining at home. The students at school are participating in a full regular timetable whilst those at home have work packs and access to support from staff.
The school is very conscious that life is different. Our governments, both state and federal, have done a fabulous job addressing COVID 19 to ensure our safety. At the moment modifications in place at school include:
- Additional cleaning staff and regular cleaning of high use areas
- No assemblies, camps, excursions or onsite visitors
- Changes to pick up and drop off
- Full Physical Education program but no contact sports
- Increased focus on personal hygiene
This all said, the students who have returned are clearly happy to be back, mixing with friends, receiving in class support and seeing their life return to normal. The government will be reviewing the current arrangements in Week 3.
Within the school we are looking at several major improvements to sustain the school into the future. The primary basketball court will be upgraded following the success of a similar project on the secondary court last year. We are also looking at installing solar panels to reduce our electricity bills. The initial cost of installation will be high but we anticipate savings in excess of $25,000 each year, all of which will be available to spend in other areas of our budget. The system will also have the capacity to add batteries should they become economically viable in future years.
Thank you to everyone for your support, we look forward to the end of the current restrictions and a return of all students to school.
