On Monday, January 17, 2022, River Oak Charter School will be closed in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. We will welcome students back to school on Tuesday, January 18, 2022. Please take time to reflect on Dr. King's legacy and the relevance of his teachings that are still alive today.
Martin Luther King Jr. proved that the most stressful times can be overcome with resiliency. I want to acknowledge our ROCS students, staff and families for your resiliency as we navigate the pandemic school year together.
With Gratitude,
Kristi McCullough

ROCS A Boys vs Baechtel Grove Middle School (Saturday, 1/8/22)
The River Oak Firebirds played Baechtel Grove Middle School on Saturday.
The Firebirds won 48-36. River Oak had to play this game without shooting guard Cheyo
Kammer and right in the beginning of the game his absence was noticeable. The Firebirds came
out a little sluggish. The Cougars came out in a 1-3-1 zone that flustered the Firebirds rhythm. At
the end of the first quarter, Baechtel Grove had a 12-11 lead. In the second quarter, River Oak
made adjustments and figured out the zone defense. The Firebirds outscored the Cougars 15-5 in
that quarter. River Oak only had 5 available players on the team; Caleb Kubas was out (knee) and Jahdae Renteria was not present. Martinez sat out the rest of the third quarter.
Even without the 6’1” center, the Firebirds maintained their lead and had a 7 point lead going
into the fourth quarter. ROCS controlled the pace in the last quarter. With each possession, they
tried to chew up the clock. “There is a brotherhood that exists within this group of young men,”
Coach Rebekah Martinez said later. “The boys were able to settle one another down and face this
adversity. That game could have slipped away. Baechtel Grove has a very respectable team. The
guys were able to keep their heads with leadership from Kaleo Olson, who led the team in
scoring with 17 points.” Geo Gibbs, who had 13 points added, “We just had to keep the intensity
up.”
