Throughout the past several months, twelve Sandwich Middle High School students have worked alongside their peers from a secondary school in Finland on initiatives centered around the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals. We are thrilled to share that students from Kaurialan Upper Secondary School arrived in Boston on Thursday, spent yesterday with their SMHS counterparts walking the Freedom Trail and taking in a Red Sox game. The Finnish students will be in Sandwich the week of September 29th and will co-present with our students on their joint research during the week. This will be a wonderful opportunity to see both groups share their work on important global issues. Nine Finnish students and their two teacher chaperones (Ms. Johanna Lampela & Mr. Sami Savolainen) will be on campus, attending classes and shadowing SMHS students all week. During this exchange, the Finns will stay in Sandwich homes, learning about American life and life within our community. During this coming April vacation, the SMHS students will travel to the Finnish school to have a comparable cultural and educational exchange experience. We extend the warmest of Sandwich welcomes to our special guests!

This past week Sandwich Community TV released the latest episode of "Ask the Supt," an interview show between SCTV host Greg Anderson and Sandwich Superintendent of Schools Dr. Joe Maruszczak. In this episode, Dr. Maruszczak discusses enrollment, strategic priorities for the school year, and the recent safety concern at Sandwich Middle High School. Influenza Vaccination

Flu season in Massachusetts is typically from October to May, with the highest activity from October through March. The best way to protect yourself and your loved ones against influenza (flu) is to get a flu vaccine every flu season. Flu is a contagious respiratory disease that can lead to serious illness, hospitalization, or even death. CDC recommends everyone six months and older get an annual flu vaccine.

Locally, the flu vaccine can be obtained from your family physician, most local pharmacies, and immunization clinics held by medical affiliations in the area. Below you will find a flyer for two vaccination clinics scheduled here in Sandwich in October.

Additionally, the CCH VNA and Barnstable Public Health Departments host regularly scheduled clinics for pediatric immunizations of all types. If your family physician does not offer influenza vaccination, and the scheduled clinics do not fit into your schedule, feel free to reach out to either source to get information on clinics being held at other locations and immunization appointments.
