IHS Curriculum Showcase: A Huge Success!
We would like to thank everyone who came out to our first Curriculum Showcase. Our students shined as they shared their amazing projects and learning experiences with the community. A special thank you to our student presenters for the thoughtful engagement you provided for our guests. You were incredible!
Thank you to the IHS faculty and staff for your hard work in making this event a huge success! It's Happening at Islands!
Faculty/Staff Spotlight
This week's Faculty Spotlight highlights our school's SRO, Office Kalonji. Officer Kalonji is incredible at creating positive relationships with students. She is intentional about getting to know students and being a support for our students, staff, and families.
Officer Kalonji is highly visible in our school. You will always find her in the hallways during transitions, having conversations with students in the cafeteria during lunches, and visiting classrooms to see the awesome teaching and learning that is occurring.
Thank you, Officer Kalonji for what you bring to Islands High School!
Attendance Challenge
We fell slightly short of our attendance goal of 92% for the week of November 11th with 90% attendance for the week. There will not be a dress down day for Monday, November 18th. Students are to report to school in uniform.
We were close last week and capable of meeting our goal. If we make our goal of at least 92% attendance for the week of November 18th students will earn a free dress down day on Monday, December 2nd. Results will be posted in the December 1st Sharks Newsletter.
IHS Chapter of Best Buddies
Islands FFA is hosting our annual Thanksgiving Food Drive this month! The agriculture classes are competing against each other to see who can bring in the most non-perishable foods. Donations must be unopened and in date. Donations can be brought to any Ag teacher's room. Winners will be announced at the November FFA meeting (11/20 in the cafeteria).
IHS Career Fair
Islands High School is excited to host a Career Fair on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, from 9AM - 11AM. This is a great opportunity to connect with employers from our community, learn about various career paths, and explore potential job opportunities. Interested students, please sign up here!
Don’t miss out on this chance to start planning your future!
Are you interested in a career in Marketing, Finance, or Hospitality/Tourism? Come learn about these industries from our guest speakers on Wednesday, November 20th in the College and Career Room. You also have the option of purchasing a Chic-Fil-A lunch for this occasion. Seats are limited and are on a first come, first served basis. We hope to see you there.
Important Read: Dress Code
All students are required to adhere to dress code expectations every day. As a reminder, students are not to wear leggings as uniform pant bottoms. Slippers, crocs, and slides are not allowed at anytime. Shorts and skirts cannot be shorter than three inches above the knee. Hats, caps, and hoods are not to be worn on the head while in the building. Bookbags must be clear or mesh.
Tops must be solid white, teal, or black. Tops may be polo-style shirts, collared blouses or turtlenecks.
Bottoms must be solid black or khaki shorts, skirts, skorts, jumpers, capri pants or pants/slacks
Dress for Success in Cooler Weather
With cooler weather drawing near we want to ensure our Sharks are dressed for success. Dressing in layers and wearing warm clothing are great for low outdoor temperatures.
Reminder: Dress code expectations remain in place. Please note, wearing sweatpants as uniform bottoms is not allowed.
Exception: Spirit Wear Friday-athletes are approved to wear sweatpants (from their purchased player packs) during the current sports season on Spirit Wear Friday. Ex. Winter Sports-basketball, wrestling, cheer.
