From the Principal
Dear LHS Families,
It’s hard to believe that we’re already two months into the 2024-25 school year! As fall sports and activities wind down, please encourage your student to consider joining a winter activity to stay connected and engaged at school. The winter months can feel long for many students, and being involved outside the classroom provides great benefits. Feel free to reach out if you’d like more information about the co-curriculars and clubs your student can join.
Thank you for the positive partnership we share in nurturing smart, confident, and empathetic young people. Your support truly makes a difference.
Wishing you a wonderful November and a joyful Thanksgiving.
Go Blue Devils!
Mr. Jelinek

Student Recognitions
State Honors Choir
On October 24, three LHS Choir students performed at the Overture Center as part of the Wisconsin State Honors Choir. Congratulations to Juniper Schmidt, Sasha Rudnytsky, and Emily TenBarge for such a beautiful and moving concert!
Students from across the state auditioned for this opportunity last February and were selected from over 1,500 to participate in the program. In June, they attended a 4-day workshop at UW-Eau Claire to learn their music, and then in October, reconvened with their ensembles (in Madison) in preparation for the concert Thursday night.
Wisconsin Public Radio will broadcast music from the State Honors concerts on Thanksgiving Day, and PBS Wisconsin will be airing concert highlights on television in late December (video clips will also be available on their website). Thanks to the Wisconsin School Music Association (WSMA) for providing such a wonderful opportunity for our student musicians!

He’s charming and charismatic—no wonder con man Harold Hill assumes he can easily fleece the citizens of River City, Iowa with the grand promise of a marching band. But the smooth-talking swindler can’t tell a trombone from a treble clef—and Marian, the local librarian, knows it. In his attempt to steal her heart (and save his hide), Harold learns a thing or two about moral responsibility—and unexpectedly enriches the town with a love of music. Meredith Willson's The Music Man includes musical classic songs like, "76 Trombones," "Wells Fargo Wagon," and "'Til There Was You."
Don’t miss this opportunity to experience a musical that celebrates community, love, and the joy of music. Bring your family and friends for a night of laughter and melody
Optimist Candidate Forums
Lodi High School students and staff were able to participate in two recent candidate forums hosted in the Performing Arts Center and run by the Lodi Optimist Club. The Forum on October 16 featured candidates Sarah Keyeski and Joan Ballweg who are running for the State Senate in District 14, and on Oct. 23, Maureen McCarville and Rebecca Witherspoon, Candidates for Assembly District 42, were in attendance. We'd like to thank the candidates and the Optimists for allowing our students and staff to witness this important part of the democratic process at our school.
NHS Halloween Food Drive
The Lodi chapter of National Honor Society ran a Trick or Can service project on Halloween. Over 25 NHS members spent Halloween evening going door-to-door collecting food to donate to Reach Out Lodi's food pantry. The students collected hundreds of items from the Lodi, Dane, Harmony Grove, and Okee communities, then delivered the food to Reach Out Lodi on Friday 11/1. Several members also helped stock the shelves. Thank you to the community members who helped us make this initiative a big success by donating to this great cause. Thank you to the NHS members for their commitment to helping the community. We are proud of your efforts.
FFA National Convention
Lodi FFA traveled down to Indianapolis, IN for the annual National FFA Convention. On the way, we toured some agricultural businesses and learned about different aspects of the industry. These tours included: Kerry Foods, Fair Oaks Farms, Heartland Growers, and Ozark Fisheries. While at the Convention, our members participated in student workshops, engaged with industry professionals at the Career Fair, and were inspired by keynote speaker Temple Grandin. We had a great week and can't wait for next year!
Veterans Day Ceremony
On Monday, November 11, Lodi High School will be hosting the annual Veterans Day Program. The program will begin at 10:00 AM and will be held in the Performing Arts Center. Afterward, any veterans in attendance are welcome to join us in the hospitality room (teacher's lounge), for refreshments and snacks.

Lodi Santa Project
Hello Families,
Each year, families in our district are offered support during the holiday season through the Lodi Santa Project. This project has been around for 30+ years providing local families in need with gifts, cold weather gear and other necessities anonymously for those who might otherwise go without. Last year we helped over 40 families with more than 100 children. These are especially difficult times for many families in our community. If you, or any family that you know who are part of the Lodi School District would benefit from this project, please reach out to the program coordinator, Pam Cunningham, directly via email at lodisantaproject@gmail.com. All information is kept strictly confidential.
Families who would like to support the Lodi Santa Project financially or who would like to sponsor a child or family can also contact Pam at the email address above. Monetary donations as well as donations such as socks, mittens, hats, books, teen friendly gift cards, board games, crafts, etc. are always appreciated!
Therapy Dog at Lodi High School - Welcome Chewy!!
We are excited that Chewy will be joining our students as a certified therapy dog. In addition to his work at Lodi High School, Chewy also volunteers at UW Children's Hospital as a part of the Caring Canines program. Students have been provided guidelines for interacting with our therapy dogs and we look forward to getting to know Chewy. Special thanks to Paula Tonn for sharing Chewy with Lodi High School.
Nurse Notes - November
I am including information below that was sent out in all families in Infinite Campus on October 18th. As of now we currently have confirmed cases at the High School. Primary Providers are continuing to test those who present with symptoms. Currently, we have no positive cases in the other buildings.
Pertussis (Whooping Cough):
Pertussis is a very contagious bacterial infection that can spread through close contact when people with the disease cough. Symptoms can appear 5 to 21 days after infection. It usually starts like a common cold (e.g., sneezing, runny nose, etc.) followed by a cough that gets worse over one to two weeks. People with Pertussis may have coughing spells in which they can’t catch their breath between coughs. Some may loudly gasp (“whoop”) and vomit or feel like they’re choking.
If your child has pertussis-like symptoms:
Please, contact your healthcare provider. Please have your provider write a note to clear your child when they can return to school.
If your student has recently been evaluated and tested for potentially having pertussis:
Per State Guidelines and Public Health, your student will need to be at home while awaiting the test result or until they have completed 5 days of the prescribed antibiotic treatment.
If the result comes back positive:
The local Health Department and School Nurse will contact you before your student can return back to school.
Prevention Steps To Help Prevent Illness:
Clean Your Hands:
Washing hands often will help protect from germs. If soap and water are not available, use alcohol-based hand sanitizer. CDC: Handwashing Facts
Cover Your Mouth and Nose:
Covering your mouth and nose with a tissue when coughing or sneezing. It helps to prevent those around you from getting sick.
Avoid Touching Eyes, Nose, Mouth
Germs can spread when a person something that is contaminated with germs then touches their eyes, nose, or mouth.
Stay Home When You Are Sick:
This helps prevent spreading illness to others.
Practice Other Good Healthy Habits:
Clean and disinfect frequently used surfaces, especially when someone is sick. Get plenty of sleep, drink plenty of fluids, manage stress, get enough sleep, and eat nutritious foods.
Vaccinations:
When children and their families are vaccinated, it helps protect the risk of getting seriously ill.
Other Resources:
Wisconsin Wayfinder: Children’s Resource Network helps assist families, caregivers, professionals, and organizations in finding a wide array of supports and services.

Food Service
November 2024
Welcome Fall! We sincerely apologize for the cancellation of the chef visit in October. Our chef had to cancel unexpectedly. We will reschedule for another time, I promise.
Our Great Apple Crunch was another success this year thanks to our wonderful local apple orchards. This year we bought our apples from Lapacek’s Orchard, Jasper Apples and Ski-Hi Fruit Farm. They were all wonderful! We also had some delicious kale salad, 3 bean sweet potato chili and chicken legs. Thank you to all who tried them! This month our Harvest of the Month features are kiwi, sweet potato and rosemary. Please watch for them on the menu. We will also feature a Turkish tortilla hack. We will also be having our Thanksgiving dinner on Wednesday, November 20. This is a chance for you to warm up for the real Thanksgiving! We will also be featuring a chicken fried beef steak! Come and try some new things!
Some reminders for all: please do not bring your food from home into the kitchen and do not bring food or drink that you have already purchased back into the kitchen. We don’t want to accidentally overcharge you. Please do not put food or drink into your pockets and use a tray if you have over 3 items. If you drop food on the floor please pick it up to avoid slips and falls. Safety First!
Last but not least please make sure when you are buying ala carte items for your friends that you have your parent’s approval. Once you are charged for items we cannot credit your account. We have had several issues with accounts being questioned, and we have had to check cameras to see what is happening.
Please use the Taher survey QR code posted everywhere to fill out a short survey. We really want your feedback so please take the time and let us know what you think of our menus.
Thanks for all your continued support!

LHS Staff Appreciation
Appreciate a Staff Member!
We have so many amazing educators here at Lodi High School! Mr. Jelinek and Mr. Marshall sat down with each staff member, and one of the common themes that came up was how much our staff love to be appreciated by the families that they serve. When you experience a staff member who is going above and beyond or deserves some recognition, please consider giving them a shout-out through our staff appreciation google form. Your appreciation will be put on a staff appreciation poster and shared with that staff member.
