Upcoming Calendar
As we head toward the end of the year, please remember that Juneteenth is on Thursday, June 19th; and our final day of school is Monday, June 23rd. Both Friday, June 20th and Monday, June 23rd are half days with dismissal starting at 1:30 PM. Lunch will be provided on both half days.
Key Dates This Spring
As a reminder, please see our timeline of key events for the remainder of the school year: Key Dates This Spring.
Every Day Counts
While we are headed down the homestretch and certainly approaching the summer, we still want to highly encourage strong attendance. Attendance matters, and we ask that families help support students to “Finish ‘Til Friday” and keep attending all the way to Friday, June 21st.
Recent Highlights At The Perry
Spring Carnival
The Spring Carnival was a big success thanks to the efforts of our School-Parent Council. Students had a great time engaging in interactive games, contests, and crafts.
BMP
Likewise, we want to thank the Boston Music Project Team for putting on the BMP Showcase this past Tuesday. It was awesome to see our student musicians in action!
Perry Sharks In The City!
Our students have been on the move in recent weeks traveling throughout the city. For example, our kindergarteners and first graders traveled to the Stone Zoo on Monday; our third graders explored the Canopy Classroom in Boston’s Emerald Necklace last week; and our fifth and sixth graders walked to Castle Island to celebrate the completion of MCAS!
Popsicles and Pajamas
Finally, it was great to see many families at our semi-annual Popsicles and Pajamas literacy night on Monday. Students enjoyed hearing stories read aloud from some of our Perry Team Members – a good time was had by all while also encouraging a love of reading!
2nd, 3rd, and 4th Graders To Participate In The Big Sing
Next Tuesday, our 2nd, 3rd and 4th graders will travel to the Strand Theatre in Dorchester to participate in the Big Sing, organized by the Boston Children’s Chorus. The Big Sing is a pop-up choir experience that brings together young singers (Grades 2-6) from different Boston communities for a joyful, celebratory day of music and unity. We are excited to have our Perry Singers participate in this awesome event!!
For the 2025 - 26 School Year: Boston Music Projects Before-School Brass Program for students in 3rd through 6th grade is now open for registration! This is a fantastic opportunity for your child to explore community music-making, learn to play a brass instrument, and build confidence -- all before the school day begins.
Please visit https://www.bostonmusicproject.org/beforeafterschool for more information and registration. Spots are limited, so sign up soon!
Spirit Week
Author Day!
On Monday, students in our K-4 classrooms will have the opportunity to meet Author Nwanneka "Neka" Udeka and listen to her book An ABC Voyage to Africa. During her visit, students will discuss what it takes to create and publish a book. Students will also have the opportunity to create a class ABC book about their own neighborhoods.
To learn more about the author, please feel free to check out her website.
Perry Loves To Read This Summer (Repeated)
We will once again be able to send home Summer Reading books, which will be distributed during the final week of the school year. Please ensure your child has an opportunity to read these books (and others) and keeps in the habit of reading this summer! Continuing to read throughout the summer is incredibly important in ensuring your child continues to develop their reading “muscles” and to fend off any summer regression.
The goal of our summer reading books is to (hopefully) send out books that students will be interested in and enjoy reading. It also creates a shared experience in reading, as their classmates will be reading the same texts. We hope that families will highly encourage their children to read these books (preferably, from a “let’s make sure to read these awesome books” perspective, rather than a “we ‘have to read these books” approach).
On a related note, students will continue to have access to Clever online programs (such as Lexia) throughout the summer and can access those programs as well to support their learning.
