Help Your Child Learn to Read!
Why is phonological awareness so important? Difficulties with phonological awareness are at the heart of most children’s reading challenges and does not come naturally to all children. Building children’s capacity to hear and manipulate sounds in spoken language supports their ability to understand connections between sounds and letters and written words when they get older. Strong phonological skills help children decode later when encountering unfamiliar words.
Your child's teacher is your best resource to go to when you have questions or want activity ideas to do at home to help build your child's phonological awareness skills.
The video below can help provide some background on what phonological awareness is and what you can do at home to help your child become a successful reader.
Notes from Nurse David
As Fall is starting to arrive, so is the cold and Flu season and we wanted to send along some reminders to parents. Please make sure you are following our illness guidelines before sending your child to school each morning! If they have had a fever, vomited or had diarrhea in the last 24 hours they can not go to school! Even if you gave them medication and they are feeling better they are still contagious! If you have any questions you can email the nurse at dshassere@kingslocal.net or call Nurse David at (513) 398-8050 #10704.
Please remind your children to be diligent with Hand washing, covering coughs and sneezes with the elbow/sleeve, not touching the nose/mouth/eyes, etc. We do our best here at school to reinforce that practice but it is important to teach it at home as well. Most students who return to school too soon from an illness not only risk others getting ill but they usually don't feel well to learn and risk getting a secondary illness from their immune system being down. Thank you!
