Attention 8th Grade Families - Two Student Travel Opportunities
Your student is invited to join us on an upcoming travel experience to Belize for the summer of 2026!
When students travel, they expand their knowledge of the world around them, discover more about themselves, and grow more confident. These skills are critical for creating the global citizens of tomorrow, and I would love to have your student join me on this adventure.
Come hear all the details, including the itinerary, activities, academic opportunities, and the cost of our trip at our informational meeting on October 7th at 6 PM. The meeting will take place in the Bay Port LMC.
Please click here to register for the meeting ASAP to save your seat: https://bit.ly/4fuvIk5.
There are limited spots on this trip, so we would love to have you attend this meeting to learn more about this exciting opportunity!
Thanks,

Matilda Jr. Musical Information Meeting
Matilda Jr. is our Bay View musical this year. We need MANY students and families involved to pull off a fantastic show. To learn more about being in the cast as a singer/dancer/actor, or behind the scenes in a crew such as Stage Crew, Sound and Lights, Costume Crew, Hair and makeup and smaller crew roles or stepping into a Leadership role as a student director for the cast or a stage manager for the crew, we'd love to see you. Our information meeting will be Monday, October 14 from 6:00pm-7:00pm in the BV Auditorium. Parents and students are both encouraged to attend. Please bring a device so we can get you hooked up with all the information. Looking forward to kicking off our musical season with all of you.
Bay View Literacy News
"The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go." — Dr. Seuss
Independent reading is so important. Combining independent reading with conversation creates a dynamic learning environment where students not only engage with texts on their own but also benefit from collaborative exploration and dialogue. This dual approach enhances both their reading skills and their ability to communicate effectively about what they’ve read.
1. Deepens Comprehension
Reflective Thinking: Discussing what they’ve read helps students process and articulate their thoughts, leading to a deeper understanding of the material.
Clarification: Conversations allow students to clarify confusing points and solidify their grasp of complex ideas.
2. Enhances Critical Thinking
Analysis: Conversations encourage students to analyze characters, plot, and themes more critically.
Different Perspectives: Engaging in discussions exposes students to different viewpoints, helping them consider multiple angles of a text.
3. Builds Vocabulary and Language Skills
Contextual Learning: Discussing books exposes students to new vocabulary in context, which aids retention and comprehension.
Expression: Talking about their reading helps students practice expressing their thoughts clearly and effectively.
4. Promotes Engagement and Motivation
Interest: Conversations about books can make reading more enjoyable and engaging, as students share their enthusiasm and insights.
Ownership: Independent reading allows students to choose what interests them, while conversations make their reading experiences feel valued and relevant.
5. Encourages Critical Reflection
Self-Assessment: Talking about what they’ve read helps students reflect on their understanding and how it aligns with or challenges their perspectives.
Connection: Discussions can help students make connections between the text and their own experiences or current events.
6. Supports Social and Emotional Development
Empathy: Engaging with diverse characters and stories through conversation fosters empathy and understanding of different experiences and viewpoints.
Collaboration: Group discussions promote social skills, such as listening, responding thoughtfully, and working collaboratively with peers.
7. Strengthens Reading Habits
Regular Practice: Independent reading builds the habit of reading regularly, while conversations provide a platform to share and reinforce this practice.
Goal Setting: Discussions can help set and track reading goals, encouraging students to read more widely and deeply.
So, find out what your child is reading. Ask about the main character, plot, action, etc. Tell about your own reading. Open communication about independent reading is crucial for fostering a positive reading culture and supporting students' literacy development. Happy reading!

Parking Pick-Up/Drop-Off Reminder
We have designated 12 visitor parking spots near the main entrance. Please utilize these during the school day instead of using the circle driveway. In the event of an emergency, we need first responders to have unobstructed access. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
A Message from our Bay View Student Services Team
Due to the increase in virtual counseling appointments scheduled during the school day, we want to make sure we can provide adequate private space. If your child will be having scheduled virtual sessions with an outside provider, we would like your partnership in obtaining a signed Release of Information in order to assist your child with any technology or connection issues that may occur during their appointments.
We ask that you provide at least a 3 day notice per each virtual appointment in order to ensure that we have adequate and private space available to your child. If you notify the school the day of an appointment, we cannot guarantee an adequate space or that the message will be received in time to call your child out of class. We know that many appointments are already scheduled, but if you are planning on scheduling future appointments during the school day, we would appreciate it, if possible, avoiding Monday appointments. We do not have the same spaces available as we do on other days. If you need help finding the best time for your child to have scheduled appointments, please don't hesitate to reach out. Thank you for your help and partnership.

This month we are collecting canned soup. Please feel free to send donations with your students to put in the collections bins/carts near the main office of school. STUDENT PICK-UP PROTOCOL
If you are picking a student up during the school day, you must come into the main office and sign the student out with your Driver's License. If someone other than you or your emergency contacts is picking up your student, please contact the office to let them know who is picking your student up. Students are not allowed to leave during school hours via bike or walking without prior approval from the main office and Principal.
HEALTH ROOM PROTOCOL
If your student is not feeling well, they need to follow protocol and come to the health room to report their illness prior to contacting home. Students should not be using their iPad to email a parent or texting a parent to pick them up. This will eliminate the spread of illnesses to other students and will make the office aware of students being picked up prior to parent arrival.
