Swansboro High School
Weekly Updates - September 1, 2024
Happy Sunday Pirates!
It was a wonderful first week of the year. Students have settled in nicely and the year is off to a fantastic start. Students quickly mastered the new morning routine and passing through the weapon detection systems efficiently. We started the week with getting all students to class in about 30 minutes and had it down to 16 minutes by Friday. Thank you for supporting our team as we all navigate the new system. Students also participated in homeroom lessons daily to complete required trainings and to sign up for their Refresh schedules for the month of September. Refresh is a 30 minute block between 2nd and 3rd period where they can attend club meetings, get a little extra help in classes or participate in fun activities.
We will have a revised morning drop off process starting on Tuesday based on the Town of Swansboro and the Onslow County Sherriff Department recommendations. The gate will now be closed from 6:30 am - 9:00 am and again from 2:00 - 4:00 pm. All cars must enter through the light and then immediately turn left on the access road next to the basketball court to access student parking and the drop off circle. Drivers accessing the senior parking lot or the drop off circle will be routed straight through the 4 way stop sign and through the Queens Creek Elementary access road. Students accessing the parking lot near the auditorium will be able to turn right at the 4 way stop sign. Police officers and Onslow County Schools district personnel will be on hand to help direct traffic this week to ensure everyone understands how to safely and quickly drop off students. Please see the graphic included in this newsletter for a visual representation of the drop off process.
Congratulations to varsity ladies cross country who placed 4th out of 21 teams last weekend at the Jungle Run Invitational. Delaney Horton placed 6th and Emma Sanders placed 17th out of 180 runners. Volleyball celebrated wins over Southwest and East Carteret. Soccer defeated Havelock and tennis defeated East Carteret. This week in athletics will include golf at Morehead and tennis at Croatan on Tuesday. Tennis will host East Carteret, volleyball will travel to Pamlico and soccer to Ashley on Wednesday. JV football will host North Brunswick, tennis will host Richlands and volleyball will travel to East Carteret on Thursday. Varsity football will travel to North Brunswick while cross country competes in the Wilmington Beach Blast on Friday.
The 2025 yearbook is available for purchase now. Students may take advantage of the early bird special until September 13th. The cost is $65. Yearbooks may be purchased online by going to "Yearbook Forever" and following the prompts. After September 13th, the price will increase.
We are in need of pencils and snacks for our free resource stations if you are interested in supporting this initiative. We are closed on Monday in observance of the Labor Day holiday but will look forward to seeing your students on Tuesday. Thank you for your continued support.
