SMS Band Weekly News
Q2 Week #7
Two BIG events coming up - All-Region Auditions / Winter Concert in the MS GYM!
All-Region Auditions
Dear Sunnyvale Band Families and Supporters,
We are thrilled to share some incredible news from the ATSSB Region 3 All-Region Band Auditions held this past Friday. Our Sunnyvale Middle School Band students delivered an unprecedented performance, setting new records and raising the bar for excellence in our program.
Key Highlights of this Historic Achievement:
- 35 students earned chairs in the All-Region Band—the highest in school history.
- Sunnyvale MS secured the most chairs in the region (43%).
- We also achieved the highest number of 1st chair placements in the region (Flute, Trombone, Tuba, Percussion)
- Remarkably, every single percussionist from Sunnyvale MS is now a member of the Region Bands! Huge congrats to Mr. Nation!
These accomplishments are a testament to the students' and directors' hard work, dedication, and passion for music, as well as the outstanding support from families and the community.
This success would not be possible without our private lessons staff -
Christie Conaway, Bridget Nance, Robert Harter, Kevin Cantu, Guillermo Villa, Adolfo Pena, Joyce Hsu, Ryan Carlisle, and Russell Lancaster.
Please join us in congratulating our students on this extraordinary achievement. They have made us all incredibly proud and have set a shining example of what can be achieved through perseverance and teamwork.
Thank you for your continued support of our band program.
Please see the information below regarding our clinic and concert in January. This is a Mandatory 2 days for the students listed below.

Concert and Honors Students should dress up for this concert. Slacks, button down shirt, and dress shoes for young men. Long dresses or slacks and a blouse for young ladies. Holiday accents are appropriate (Santa hats, elf ears, bells etc.)
Beginners should wear jeans, their black band shirt, and festive accents.
Keep an eye out for our band student gift recommendations in the weeks to come!
Beginner Band
Beginners
Rhythm Rockers Challenge is live! Your student should be working towards their pass offs on their computer through MusicFirst.
Beginner parents Your students should now be able to read and perform lines from their book! Just a few weeks ago, we were making "noises," now we have transitioned to fundamental scales and REAL music. Practice time should be anywhere from 15minutes to 1 hour at home, daily. Please make your student's musical success a priority in your family's daily routine. Just like homework, or brushing your teeth, daily routine practice is the best way to ensure success and keep their skills moving forward. These first sounds are the foundation for many years of beautiful music making to come! We are still having a blast with our beginners!
Look at the calendar and start preparing schedules for our winter concert! 12/10
