A Note from our Nurse- ATTENTION 6TH GRADE PARENTS!
A Note from the School Nurse
Attention all 6th grade parents:
Two more immunizations are required for students entering 7th grade: a meningococcal vaccine (MCV) and a tetanus/diphtheria/pertussis booster (Tdap).
Students will not be allowed to start 7th grade in the fall without documentation of the MCV vaccination according to Iowa law.
Please check your child’s immunization record or call their health care provider to find out if they have received the Tdap booster and meningococcal vaccine (MCV). Make an appointment if needed.
Required immunizations for 7th grade may be given any time after the age of 10 years old.
Johnson County Public Health provides immunizations and can be reached at 319-356-6042.
If your child does not have insurance, please reach out to the school nurse for assistance.
If you have any questions please contact the school nurse.
Thank you for your help getting middle school off to a great start!

Orchestra Information:
On Tuesday, May 21st, Beginning Orchestra students will be traveling to City High for their dress rehearsal from 10:15-11:45. They will need to have their instruments to get on the bus for this rehearsal, so please make sure your student doesn't forget that day! The concert performance will be at 6:15 that night, but you should plan to drop your student off by 5:45 so that we can tune them and warm up prior to the performance.
Advanced Orchestra students will be traveling from 1-2:30, and their concert will be at 7:15 that night, but you should plan to drop your student off by 6:45 so that we can tune them and warm up prior to the performance.
If your child has a school-provided instrument and/or supplies, I will be collecting those during lessons the week of May 27-31. Please make sure they have everything back to school that week so we can help yours and other students moving forward. This includes: instrument, bow, shoulder rest (or sponge), rosin, and books with ICCSD written on the front. Any photocopied music is theirs to keep.
There will be no orchestra lessons or rehearsals after May 31st.
Thank you so much for your support of the Orchestra program this year, and I hope to see you all again as they move forward on their musical journey's!

Johnson County 'I Voted' Sticker Contest
In an effort to increase civic engagement in 2024, the Johnson County Auditor’s Office is organizing a fun way for students to show off their artistry and enthusiasm for voting. They are putting on a 2024 ‘I Voted’ Sticker Contest! Students will have the opportunity to have their own ‘I Voted’ sticker design in all 64 voting precincts in Johnson County on Election Day, with the chance to see their creativity displayed on tens of thousands of voters.
There will be two divisions, a youth (17 years old and younger) and an adult (18 years old and over). The submission period for the contest is May 28th through July 5th. Submissions can include any medium, including but not limited to, hand drawn, painted, and graphic design. A panel of Johnson County employees will determine the top 5 designs from each division, and the public will vote on the winner on our website.
The Sticker Template and Submission Form are attached below. As a note, submissions can also be digitally submitted, they do not have to use the sticker template. If submitted digitally, it must be a 2” diameter circle and a .png or .jpeg file.

It's that time of year: time to round up all the stray books and get them back into the Longfellow Library! We currently have 185 overdue books, including 27 books that were due in 2023! Sadly, with budgets being the way they are, any books that are not returned will most likely not be replaced. Please help!
In happier news, the Book fair was a great success! We sold over $5000 of books and met our goal! 6 lucky students won raffle prize books. Thanks so much to all who supported!

- 1st graders completed four weeks of snake research
- 2nd graders did online biome research on grasslands, deserts, or rainforests
- 3rd graders learned all about countries of the world
- 4th Graders completed online planet research
