MEET AND GREET - THURS, AUG 31ST
The teachers at Forest Hills are looking forward to meeting students and families next week during our annual Meet and Greet from 2:30 to 3:30 on Thursday, August 31, 2023. In order to make this a successful experience for everyone, please remember this time is dedicated for all students and families to meet their teacher, perhaps have a quick conversation and drop off school supplies. Please help us maintain peaceful environments conducive to these conversations, and encourage playtime and social time to take place on the playground. Our generous PTO is supplying ice cream on the playground to welcome one and all!
We all appreciate your cooperation in making this time a wonderful experience for each and every student and family, and can’t wait to see you soon!

Smart Start is an opportunity specifically for our students with 504s and IEPs, and their parents and guardians, to make introductions with their teachers and to feel prepared for the start of school. Smart Start is typically held the Thursday before the first day of school. The next one is scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 31, 2023 12:30 - 2:30 at Forest Hills.
Teachers will be familiar with students' plans and accommodations. To help better know your students, please complete the attached one-page profile or create one on your own ahead of time, and give it to the teacher at the Smart Start introduction.
Also, to assist in your family’s preparation for the new school year use the Smart Start checklist for parents and guardians of students with 504s and IEPs.

Here is the School Supply List for the 23-24 school year. Please scroll down for your grade.
E-Bike and E-Scooter Usage on Our School Campuses
We appreciate the convenience and freedom of cycling and scootering and highly encourage riding peddled bikes and push scooters to and from school. These are excellent ways to get the physical activity needed for healthy minds, reduce traffic congestion around schools, and improve the environment.
However, since it is illegal for people under 16 to operate Electric Assisted Bicycles (e-Bikes) and Electric or Gas-powered scooters (e-scooters), and all our elementary and middle school students are underage, Lake Oswego School District will not allow students to bring (ride or walk) e-bikes or e-scooters onto our elementary and middle school campuses. Many high school students are legally allowed to ride e-bikes and e-scooters, and school personnel cannot monitor the different ages of high school students with fidelity during drop-off and pick-up time, so high school students may bring e-bikes and e-scooters onto our high school campuses. We will continue enforcing school, city, and state safety rules on our campuses.
If a student brings an e-bike or e-scooter to elementary or middle school, our school staff will immediately contact their parents/guardians to pick up the bike. We cannot allow underage students to operate (ride or walk) an e-bike or e-scooter onto campus, nor can we knowingly enable them to ride it home since it's against the law.
LOSD and the City of Lake Oswego uphold regulations to protect our community's safety and harmony. Lake Oswego Police officers are conducting regular patrols, focusing on areas with high e-bike and e-scooter traffic. The State of Oregon e-bike and e-scooter regulations are listed below.
More About E-Bikes
An e-bike has fully operative pedals for human propulsion and an electric motor with a power output of not more than 1,000 watts. To be considered an e-bike, it must also not be capable of going faster than 20 mph on level ground without assistance (i.e., pedaling). If it can go faster than 20 mph or has a motor with a power output of more than 1,000 watts, then it is considered a moped and would require an Oregon Driver's License to operate it.
Medications
Please review required guidelines for Medications at school and complete the proper medication form for your student's medication. If your student has an LOSD health plan created by the district nurse, please be sure to promptly provide all medications and supplies indicated for use in the plan.
Immunizations DUE!
Please review the OHA requirements and information on required immunizations for students. Please make arrangements to complete immunizations and update with your school office to avoid exclusion in 2024.
When To Stay Home
To keep our population healthy, safe and attending class please review and bookmark the guidelines on when to stay home from school (Keeping Ill Students Home).
If you would like to speak to your school’s district nurse, click the link below for contact information.
ALL VOLUNTEERS MUST COMPLETE THIS PAPERWORK ANNUALLY
For the safety of children, volunteers are required to have an approved background check when volunteering in schools.
To help streamline compliance with state and school board policies, which require that all volunteers have background checks and knowledge of other board policies -- as well as state-mandated proof of vaccination (or a qualified exemption) -- we are introducing a new all-in-one volunteer application and approval process through ou Raptor Visitor Management System.
Submitting an online application initiates the background check process. Once submitted, applicants will receive an email upon approval of your background check and you will be given access through the onsite Raptor System at all schools. Please allow up to three weeks to process your approval.
Volunteers need to submit only one application for volunteering in all LOSD schools. Applications need to be submitted annually to capture changes in background checks, policies, and/or vaccination requirements.
Volunteer Application for LOSD
Thank you for applying promptly, and for your service to our students and schools. We are grateful for our volunteers.
The Oregon Department of Education publishes an annual notice regarding state assessments in English Language Arts and math. Please review the Annual Notice for Statewide Tests for information about why participation matters, the right to opt out, and test windows.
