Notes from the Principal
Dear West Family,
Next week we celebrate Staff Appreciation Week…selfishly I think we have the best elementary staff around. Our PTC has been gracious enough to provide lunch to our staff next week and we are extremely thankful. Speaking of PTC, we are in the last days of our MSTEP testing in grades 3 and 4- thanks to our PTC, students received gum, snacks and water to help them perform the best they could during their testing.
Please continue to adhere to our request of being patient in our drop off and pick up lines. We continue to have people cutting in front of others. Not only is this unsafe, but it impacts all of the individuals waiting to get into assigned locations, thus prolonging the entire process. Our whole dismissal process, on average, takes seven minutes from start to finish. Please be patient, so we can continue to keep our students safe.
Welcome to May! We have so many fun and exciting things taking place- please keep an eye out for these in the information below and with the communication with your teachers.
As always, please reach out with any questions, comments or concerns.
West is…
Best,
Tony

Attendance
Student Absences
Just a reminder if your student will be absent or late please email westoffice@nvps.net or call 616.361.3470 the day of the absence.
Student Tardy
Students are marked tardy if they arrive to class after the 8:25 bell. Please make sure to sign them in on the Chromebook located in our lobby if you drop off students after this time.
Student Pick Up
Please contact the office before 2:00 pm with any pick up or end of day changes. This helps the office make sure the students will get the message in time.
*If your student is attending an appointment of any kind please provide the office with a doctor's note.
We are at the point where truancy/attendance letters are being sent out and want to make sure we are working together to have your student in school as often as possible. Please know that this reporting is mandatory by the state of Michigan and is something we are required to do.
Nurse's Corner
- If your child becomes ill at school, we will contact you to pick him/her up. We have no accommodations for sick children at school. Please help us by keeping your child at home in the morning if they are ill or have a contagious condition. Students should remain home until they have been fever free (fever: 100.4F or greater) without medication for 24 hours.
- Medication Forms are required for dispensing any medications, both over the counter and prescribed. All prescription medications require a physician signature. Parents must personally bring in medications and they may not be sent in with students.
- It is a great idea to keep an extra pair of underwear and pants in a ziploc bag in the bottom of your child's backpack (accidents happen).
- Remember, if your child has a fever, they must be fever free for 24 hours without medication before returning to school.
- It is important to make sure proper hand washing is happening. Especially after using the bathroom and before eating. Also making sure clothes are laundered often; including outerwear: coats, hats and mittens.
Volunteer Consent Form
Please take a quick minute to fill out this Volunteer Consent Form. This is required for anyone who wants to attend a field trip, help with popping popcorn, working at the school store etc. Once the form is filled out it does take 5-7 business days to process, so make sure to fill it out at least a 7 business days in advance.
