Happy Halloween!!!
News from Ann and Allie
- Third, Fifth and new Fourth graders at Westgate will be taking the CogAT assessment on November 1st, 2nd, and 4th. The CogAT is a district-administered assessment used as part of the advanced program placement process. The CogAT measures learned reasoning and problem-solving skills in the verbal, quantitative, and nonverbal areas.
- Students should not bring pop-its, or other small toys to school. Toys brought from home, no matter how small, lead to disagreements and lost toys. Please help us minimize any issues by reminding your child not to bring them to school.

Westgate PTA is accepting submissions for the National PTA Reflections art program from students in kindergarten - 5th grade. Reflections is a theme-based art competition, where students can be recognized and compete in one of 6 categories (see below). Student winners advance through council, region, and state Reflections programs, with the chance to win scholarship money at the national level!
Click here for the Student Entry Form and Official Rules and Flyer, or visit Westgatepta.com for more info
Specific Category Guidelines:
For more information, visit the National PTA Reflections site here.
Students submit their completed works of art along with their completed & signed entry form. The entry form is linked above OR Mrs. Miller has forms in the art room. It is important to follow general rules and guidelines for your specific art category. Entries are evaluated by category and division* according to the child's age/grade and then judged 40% for interpretation, 30% for creativity, and 30% for technique. Scores tend to be higher when an artist statement includes the student's inspiration and how their artwork relates to the theme.
* Reflections has a Special Artist Division that is an option for students with disabilities who receive services under IDEA or ADA. Learn more about eligibility and rules from Special Artist Division Specific Rules/Guidelines.
The submission deadline is Wednesday, November 3rd by 5 pm. You can turn in project submissions to Mrs. Miller in the art room or by contacting Karen Radek (see below).
