Orange Shirt Day 2024
Sidewalk Art!
Our school’s Orange Shirt Day celebration was a beautiful and meaningful event, bringing our community together in recognition of the importance of truth and reconciliation. A special thank you goes to our self-identified Art students, who contributed their talent by painting the sidewalk with powerful imagery that honors the significance of this day and the experiences of Indigenous people impacted by residential schools. We also want to extend our gratitude to all those who wore orange shirts, showing their solidarity and support. Your participation made this day truly memorable, reminding us of the importance of acknowledging the past and working together for a brighter future. Also, a big shout out to Mrs. Ricioppo for organizing and guiding our Art students.
Larsen Yellowbird - Indigenous games
We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Larsen Yellowbird for visiting our school and generously sharing his culture with us. His presentation on the significance of his regalia and the fascinating history behind Indigenous games offered our students a deeper understanding and appreciation of Indigenous traditions. We are grateful for the opportunity to learn from his knowledge and wisdom. Thank you very much to Mrs. Wagner and Jaylee Cardinal-Arcand for all their hard work in bringing this event together.

Day for Truth & Reconciliation
Each year, September 30th marks the Day for Truth and Reconciliation, dedicated to recognizing and reflecting on the painful history and ongoing impact of residential schools on Indigenous communities across Canada.
For parents of adolescents, this is a valuable opportunity to engage in meaningful conversations with your children about Indigenous history, the significance of reconciliation, and the importance of understanding and respecting diverse cultures. It's a chance to teach empathy, promote understanding, and encourage a commitment to building a more inclusive society.
Together, let's strive to create a future where understanding and respect for all cultures are central to our collective identity. Explore the rich and diverse cultures, voices, experiences and stories of the First Nations, Inuit, and Métis people here.
Connect for Parents
Connect is for parents of pre-teens and teens struggling with significant behavioural and mental health issues. It is an opportunity to build a better relationship with your 8-18 year old youth. Join us for this free 10 week program!

Star Spirit Lodge
It was such a wonderful experience to share and learn about Indigenous culture and values and we are pleased to announce that the name of our newly created Indigenous center is ‘Star Spirit Lodge’.
Thank you Elder Fred and Elder Hazel for sharing this experience with us and through this ceremony, giving us the perfect name which also fits so beautifully with our Catholic faith as “God counts the stars and calls them all by name.”
The intention of our Star Spirit Lodge is:
to be a gathering space for students, staff and community members and a place for our self-identified students' to succeed. A space where they feel represented and respected.
a place they can participate in talks, smudges, workshops, and programs. It can also be a landing spot for students, Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and community members during any events or gatherings.
to be a safe space for students to go when they feel like they need to connect with their culture, feel that sense of belonging, want to learn more about their heritage or their neighbors if they are non-indigenous.
to build community and fellowship
Here is what we hope to eventually see from our Star Spirit Lodge:

Literacy support
Course planning and studying skills
