Rockfield Elementary
November Newsletter - 2024
Notes from the Principal
We are off to a wonderful start already!
We are looking forward to focusing on Gratitude this month! One way to think about Gratitude is โchoosing to appreciate the people and things in our lives.โ Practicing Gratitude can increase our well-being and our happiness.
Being the principal at Rockfield provides me with so much joy. There are countless things that I appreciate about our school. Here is a list of just a few things I appreciate about Rockfield:
- We have incredible staff who show up every day with love in their hearts and learning on their minds. They care for each of our students and for each other. It makes for a fantastic place to work.
- We have curious students who crave learning. They recognize that learning is a process and come to school prepared to take on new challenges each day. When they get stuck, they ask for help. They make strong friendships and exemplify the character traits we hope to foster every year.
- We have such supportive families. Our families work with us to provide the best possible learning experience for their kids. They reach out to staff when they have questions, concerns and celebrations. They value the hard work the students and staff do each day.
- We continue to grow as we go. For example, this year I am thankful for the work of the staff and students who help put our Rockfield News together and on our website for families to view.
My list goes on and on. As you venture into November, I encourage you all to reflect each day for the people and things in your life that bring you joy. Naturally things may arise that cause question and concern, therefore I encourage you to reach out to your child's teacher, our school counselor, the office or to me to work through your questions. We are here for you all and want all students to feel safe and successful.
Fondly,
Dana Croatt
Battle of the Books - 4th & 5th Graders
ATTENTION 4TH AND 5TH GRADES!
This year Rockfield is participating in the 2024-25 Battle of the Books reading competition. Battle of the Books is a statewide reading program in which teams of up to 4 students read a variety of fiction and narrative nonfiction titles and compete in school-based competitions in order to qualify for a state level competition or "battle". The battles are fun competitions in which teams compete against each other by answering questions about the plot, theme, characters and settings, as well as other elements about the books they have read.
All of the titles are listed below and can be found in either our school library collection or through the Germantown Community Library. All reading is done on the student's own time and battles will take place during the school day.
Absolutely Nat by Maria Scrivan, The Big Cheese by Jory John, Big Tree by Brian Selznick, The Challenger Disaster: Tragedy in the Skies by Pranas T. Naujokaitis, City Spies by James Ponti, Contenders: Two Native Baseball Players, One World Series by Traci Sorell, Finding the Langston by Lesa Cline-Ransome, Invisible by Christina Diaz Gonzalez, Jumper: A Day in the Life of a Backyard Jumping Spider by Jessica Lanan, Lila Greer, Teacher of the Year by Andrea Beaty, The Lost Library by Rebecca Stead and Wendy Mass, Midnight at the Barclay Hotel by Fleur Bradley, The One and Only Ruby by Katherine Applegate, Ostriches Eat Sausage: Alphabet Book by Robin R. GHS National German Honor Society Advent Calendars
Advent Calendars
The National German Honor Society is selling Adventskalender to raise money for field trips and scholarships. Advent calendars were a German tradition starting in the early 1800's. Each calendar costs $5. They are decorated with a seasonal picture and have chocolate behind each door. It is a fun and tasty way to count down the days until Christmas. Consider ordering one for yourself and more as gifts. The calendars will be delivered to the high school and available for pickup by the 1st of December. You can order yours here:
Rockfield Health Room Updates ๐ฉน
Health Room News
Since it is cold outside, please send appropriate weather gear such as hats, gloves, jacket, and boots. The children go outside 2x a day unless the weather is below 0 degrees. We do have some extra cold weather gear if it is needed in a pinch, but they must be returned at the end of recess. If you have any old jackets or winter gear that does not fit your student, we would greatly appreciate any donations.
Please keep your child home if they are not feeling well and/or they have a temp over 100, they have diarrhea, an uncontrollable cough, thick mucus/runny nose, or if they have vomited in the past 24 hours. They may return to school 24 hours after symptoms subside without the use of medication. Please refer to the district nurse email that was sent out in skyward which lists reasons to keep your child home, and why your child may be sent home due to illness.
Please remember if your child needs to take medication at school, students are not allowed to transport ANY type of medication. This includes cough drops. Parents/Guardians must drop off, and pick up any medications that have to be taken during school hours. If your child requires an Epi Pen, Inhaler, or any doctor prescribed meds to be taken in the event of an emergency please bring them in as soon as possible. We do have 2 child Epi Pens in the health room in the event of an emergency.
Note: When your child comes to the health room, depending on the nature of the visit, as a courtesy you may be contacted with an additional explanation or clarification. Should this occur you would be contacted via email. As always, if it is an emergency or if your child needs to go home, you will be called directly by the health room attendant.

Rockfield PTA News
What a fabulous October we had! Rocktober was a huge success! Thank you to everyone who volunteered their time or donated to the event in some way. A special shout out to Keith Novotny with Cousin's Subs West Bend for bringing his food truck again this year. We hope everyone who attended had a spooktacular time.
At Rocktober, we had 3 jars of items and we asked you to guess how many of each item was in each jar. We had one parent winner and one student winner per jar! The parents will receive a Rockfield baseball hat, and the student will get a Rockfield water bottle. Congrats to all the winners!!

We also provided two dinners for our staff during conferences. Proceeds from our fundraisers go towards providing staff with meals, supplies, and much more. Thank you for continually supporting your PTA.
We also held our membership drive finishing November 1st. Anyone who became a paid PTA member any October 1st was entered to win a $50 Amazon gift card. Our randomly selected winner was Megan DeGeorge. You can still become a PTA member at any time during the year. https://www.rockfieldpta.com/membership
Food for thought... our current president will be ending her term this year and will not be eligible for reelection as she has already served two consecutive terms. We will need someone to take over as president! Nominations are in March and elections are in April. Since PTA is a non-profit 501c3, we must have a president to continue as an organization. Without PTA we will no longer be able to do all of the fundraisers and events that bring so much joy to the students and provide our staff with much needed support. If you are interested and would like to learn more about the position, please email us at rockfieldpta@gmail.com.
We also would love to see some new faces at our PTA meetings! They are the second Tuesday of each month at 7 pm in the cafeteria. Come hear from Dr. Croatt about what's happening at Rockfield and what PTA is up to next!
UPCOMING EVENTS:
Tuesdays in November - Spelling Bee practice in the library during lunch recess
11/12 - PTA Meeting @ 7 pm in the cafeteria

๐ Important Bus Information
๐ RITEWAY BUS COMPANY
PLEASE BE ADVISED OF THE FOLLOWING CHANGES/UPDATES FROM THE RITEWAY BUS COMPANY
- ADDING/REMOVING A STUDENT TO A ROUTE:
- If a family wants their student to begin or stop taking the bus they must notify Riteway (262) 677-3282.
- STUDENT DROP OFF CHANGE:
- If a family needs to change the drop off location (i.e. student now going to daycare) a special transportation form needs to be completed, returned to the school office, and signed by Dr. Croatt. The signed form will be emailed to Riteway and Riteway will confirm and/or deny the request.
- STUDENT GOING HOME ON SAME BUS BUT GETTING OFF AT A DIFFERENT STOP:
- Students going home on the same bus but getting off at a different stop need a note signed by their parent/guardian so the school and the driver are aware of the change.
- STUDENT GOING HOME ON A DIFFERENT BUS:
- This is ONLY allowed in the event of a family emergency and will ONLY be on an as needed basis. A note/email/phone call should be sent by the parent regarding the emergency so that the school and Riteway are aware of the situation and can convey what route and classmate the student will go home with for that evening.
