Hey Band!
September 15th-28th, 2019
Students - Get Ahead!
The first Grading Period (which is actually only 5 weeks long) ends Friday, September 20th.
Communicate
- Talk to your teachers
- Attend teacher office hours (on your non-rehearsal day)
- Attend FIT sessions
- Ask for help from a classmate
Do Your Work
Actually DO the reading, DO the math assignment, DO your part of the group project
Almost everyone procrastinates to varying degrees, but GROWING UP means DOING YOUR WORK, and DOING IT ON TIME - and when you know your work will be late, COMMUNICATE in a timely fashion
- One of the best ways to receive A's and B's in your classes is to TURN IN ALL WORK ON TIME
- If you don't meet the deadline, TALK TO YOUR TEACHER, then turn it in late - Better late than never (late = points off ........never = 0)

Words of Wisdom
Wake Up - Show Up - Grow Up - Clean Up
Wake Up - Including actually waking up(!), every day we have opportunities to realize something important about ourselves, our lives, and the lives of other people. Our daily insights, epiphanies, and realizations are a crucial part of life. These come in all shapes and sizes, and each person has unique opportunities that no one else will ever have. Pay Attention! Take time for yourself each day to get centered and to discover what matters most to you.
Show Up - Come to school, go to class, go to work, do your part, do your job, do your homework, practice your instrument. Don't hide from your problems. Face them and do your best!
Grow Up - Be kind, be responsible, be your best. Your relationships are a VITAL part of your life. Ignore your relationships at your own peril! Recognize you are part of groups everywhere in your life. Family, Friends, School, Neighborhoods, Communities, and more all count YOU as a member. Band can teach many things, but hopefully by now, you are beginning to understand how your actions affect more than just you. When we talk about Equal Contribution in rehearsals, that skill set extends beyond the marching field or band hall. Have the tough conversations, work through the arguments and disagreements. Seek to understand others. Communicate your thoughts, emotions, and dreams to the people in your life, whether that's friends, family, teachers, or other trusted mentors. Learn to Listen - Listen to Learn!
Clean Up - Seek to make your environment a better place in which to live, work, and play! Leave a place better than you found it. Keep your binders organized, your backpacks cleaned out, your lockers clean, your bedrooms picked up, the band hall clean, and help out at home with your family chores. ---Think Global, Act Local--- Today you clean up your bedroom, the kitchen, and the band hall; tomorrow you help clean up the world.
