- PARENT COUNCIL - Thank you to our parents who joined our Parent Council meeting. The meeting is posted on our Parent Council page here - Parent Resources / Parent Council 2024-2025.
- PICTURES DELIVERED - Pictures were distributed to students on Friday during I & E.
STUDENT HANDBOOK REMINDER – A reminder to all students, parents, and guardians that students that the students were provided a free student handbook the first day of school. Students are required to have the handbook with them as it is used for a variety of purposes including a sign out for students leaving class, HW & assignment record, and other school activities. Please see students SMART goal completed last week in I & E so you are aware of and can assist with completing this goal.
MySchoolApps - Home Page – Application for Free & Reduced Lunch
Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP) (pa.gov) – Link to application and resources to learn more about this program.
COLONIAL CORES & EXPECTATIONS – It was a great first week with students as we reviewed basic overview of expectations, policies, and procedures and following up this week as noted above. We have created the Colonial Core page on our website for our community to access the overview of the Colonial Cores and what we teach and the expectations we have for students and all of us in a variety of settings. We will continue to model and revisit these throughout the year!
9th GRADE UPDATES
The 9th grade heads to Camp America this week: Team Fire (9A) on Monday and Team Ice (9C) on Tuesday. Students will be engaged in various team building activities. They held the final informational meeting with the grade on Friday during I & E
8th GRADE UPDATES
All 8th graders have been learning about the relationship between the sun, moon, and earth. They explored moon phases, tides, and eclipses to prepare for our upcoming quiz on Monday, 10/21.
Team 8-2: Mr. Knoedler’s 8th grade American History classes are portraying the roles of colonial Americans who are caught in the middle of the French and Indian War. They are meeting at the Black River Tavern in the Ohio River Valley to discuss the events leading up to the conflict, strategies of all sides, and what the future holds for them as British subjects. Students conducted research using primary and secondary source material to generate scripts used in their presentations. Job well done by all!
7th GRADE UPDATES
7-0: Students in Mr. Willard’s classes painted Greek Shields depicting cultural differences in Athens and Sparta.
7-2: The third installment of the Team 7-2 Games is completed! The team braved the morning chill last Friday and competed in a super-sized version of tic-tac-toe. The board was created from hula hoops and the Xs and Os were pinnies. We whittled down the 7 teams to the final two and Mr. Hilbert's I&E emerged victorious! The current overall winner is Hilbert!
The 7th Grade Social Studies Department is looking for volunteers to come to Holicong on Veterans Day. A blast was sent out to families this week: The focus is to honor our Veterans and educate the next generation of young Americans. We are inviting any friends or relatives of the students at Holicong to come speak to small groups of seventh graders on Monday, November 11th during their social studies class. Speakers can come for part of the day or stay for the entire school day (9:50am-2:30pm), if their schedule allows. Veterans would be asked to speak with a small group of students; sharing their stories, explaining the historical context of their service, answering a few questions, and perhaps showing any artifacts they may have from their time served. Our hope is that we get enough volunteers to create 10-15-minute sessions between groups of students and veterans.
Save the Date: Free STE(A)M Activity Night for all CBSD Students, Nov. 7
"Flexible Instructional Days" After First District Closure for Weather or Other Emergency
A Flexible Instructional Day (FID) is designed for situations where school buildings need to close due to weather or other emergencies, but learning can still continue at home. CBSD will not use a FID until after the first day schools are closed due to weather or another emergency. We will only use the FID plan if the entire district is closed, not for closures affecting just one school. Families and students will have a plan and expectations to follow should a FID be called. Learn more.
Submissions for Next Round of CBSD Lock Screen Contest Due 10/20
Congrats to Tohickon 9th grader Greidy Hernandez for winning the first round of CBSD's lock screen contest! Her original artwork is now featured on CBSD devices through the rest of the month. The district now invites students to try their hand in the next round of the contest, inspired by CBSD's "Portrait of a Graduate" Effective Communicators attribute. Submissions are due this Sunday, Oct. 20. More details and how to submit.
Device Usage Fees Due by October 30
A friendly reminder to families who have yet to pay the device usage fee this school year: the fee is due by the end of the month. The elementary student fee is $15/year, while the fee for students in grades 7 and 10 is $60, which covers three years. Prorated fees apply for new secondary students. If you need financial assistance, please visit our website for details. Thank you for your cooperation. Next steps here: https://www.cbsd.org/1to1fee
