Early Learning staff PD requirements fall under one of two calendars depending on the position. Some staff follow the school year PD calendar that runs from August to the end of June, and other staff follow the State of Michigan (LARA) child care licensing calendar that runs from January to December 31st. It is the responsibility of all staff to know which calendar that fall under, and to keep track of and complete their required hours each year. There are some hours that are recorded by our District, and all early learning hours will now be required to be recorded in the Mi.Registry State of Michigan electronic site. I am quite confident that all of you know which PD calendar you fall under, but don't hesitate to ask if you have a question.

These guidelines mean that staff that operate under the child care licensing PD started a new year on January 1st for acquiring the required professional development hours for 2020-2021. You should be uploading your PD certificates on the Mi.Registry site after you complete each PD session that you attend or complete online.

The following are staff that operate under the child care licensing (LARA) professional development calendar:

• Preschool Classroom Caregivers.
• Child Care Providers
• Latchkey Caregivers
• Lunch monitor caregivers
• Site Supervisor/Office monitors

Certified teachers and GSRP staff follow the Davison school year calendar for completing PD requirements.

Every year the GISD holds a literacy conference. There is always a keynote speaker and several break out sessions with varying topics in the area of literacy. The conference is well worth the cost and is a great way for latchkey caregiver, child care providers, and preschool assistants to get some professional development hours. These hours would count in the area of literacy for our staff that need child care licensing hours. The conference is also a good opportunity for our certified teachers and GSRP staff to get PD hours. The cost this year is $60 and the conference is from 7:30-2:30 on Saturday, January 25th.

This year is the 20th Annual Literacy Conference and there will be an awesome keynote speaker and over 20 breakout sessions. Vendors will also be there to showcase their new products.

We are starting to get more calls from our Cardinal's Nest preschool and Davison latchkey parents regarding the latchkey and preschool statements for income tax purposes. It is important to let families know that we have a plan in place to get these documents to our families. The documents will be ready for pick up starting the week of January 27th.

Our offices have been busy printing the statements that will include the needed tax number and receipt of expenses for tuition based preschool, summer camp, and latchkey. Please help us get the word out that parents will be able to pick up their document at their respective latchkey or preschool site.

The monthly latchkey site supervisor/program director and office staff meeting will be held this Wednesday at 1:30 in the early learning office at Central/GSRP. We will be discussing tax documents, session 6 enrollment, and more. I am looking forward to seeing everyone there.
