Astro November 2024 Update
Dream big. Reach for the stars. Together we achieve success!
Principal's Message
Dear Families,
We have successfully completed our first quarter of the school year. Every year is a learning process to remember routines and how to do school. Students are excited to be with peers but navigating social situations can be exhausting. During our class meetings, students have the opportunity to learn about building positive relationships with their peers. If your child has experienced conflict with another peer, you can use these materials to talk to your child.
If you notice a pattern of conflict that would meet the definition of bullying.
Hillsboro School District identifies the following behaviors as characteristic of bullying:
“Harassment, intimidation or bullying” means any act that substantially interferes with a student’s educational benefits, opportunities, or performance that takes place on or immediately adjacent to District grounds, at any District-sponsored activity, on District-provided transportation, or at any official District bus stop, that may be based on, but not limited to, the protected class status of a person, having the effect of:
1. Physically harming a student or damaging a student’s property;
2. Knowingly placing a student in reasonable fear of physical harm to the student or damage to the student’s property; or
3. Creating a hostile educational environment including interfering with the psychological well-being of the student.
Please let your child's teacher know so we can help to support them. Here are some additional resources on the topic of bullying and how to talk to your student.
It's important to remember that we are all still learning how to be together. This takes practice and learning. Social and emotional learning is a big part of being a school community. We are working on building these skills with students in and it takes time and being open-minded about how everyone is growing and learning. You can help with this learning by checking in with them at home and developing an advocacy plan. An advocacy plan includes what your child can say at the moment when conflict is happening and knowing the adults to talk to if they have a problem.
In partnership,
Jennifer Robbins

State Test Scores
On Wednesday, October 23rd State Test Scores will be available in ParentVUE. This means that they will no longer be mailed with the Semester 1 report cards. Families should contact the school if they need help accessing ParentVUE.
Birthday Treats
We kindly request that parents do not send treats or snacks to school for birthday celebrations. This promotes inclusivity, healthier choices, and focused learning. Some students have dietary restrictions or allergies that prevent them from enjoying certain treats. By not having treats, we can ensure that valuable class time is not disrupted and that our students can fully engage in their lessons.
