Principal Message
Dear Bulldog Parents,
We want to express our sincere gratitude to all the families who joined us for our 2nd Annual Academic Night! It was wonderful to see so many of you experiencing firsthand what your students are learning in the classroom. We hope you enjoyed the hotdogs and the opportunity to connect with our teachers.
We're excited to invite you and your students to our Electives Fair on Tuesday, February 11th! This is a fantastic opportunity for students to explore the diverse range of elective courses available and discover new interests. Students will be able to interact directly with teachers and get a firsthand look at what each elective entails, helping them make informed decisions about their academic pathway.
- Current 6th & 7th Graders: 5:15 PM - 6:30 PM
- Current 5th Graders (Next Year's 6th Graders): 7:00 PM - 8:00 PM
We're also thrilled to share some positive news regarding student behavior. As of January 31, 2025, our discipline incidents have decreased by over 52%! We attribute this success to the implementation of Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) this year. Our students are learning to take accountability for their actions and are earning positive rewards for their good behavior.
Regarding water bottles, we appreciate your understanding and cooperation. To ensure the safety of all students, we have recently asked students to bring only clear plastic water bottles to school. We understand that many students enjoy using their colorful Yeti and Stanley cups, but unfortunately, some have misused them, creating a safety concern. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, but student safety is always our top priority.
A reminder that we have two upcoming holidays: Friday, February 14th, and Monday, February 17th. Please ensure your students remain home on these days.
Finally, the next three months will fly by! Please mark your calendars for the end of the current grading period on March 7th, which will be followed by Spring Break from March 10th-14th.
We look forward to seeing you at the Electives Fair!
Sincerely,
Andrea Lagard

Cell Phone/Telecommunication Guidelines
Dear Parents/Guardians,
We want to inform you about Watkins Middle School's cell phone/telecommunication device guidelines. To ensure a focused and productive learning environment for all students, we ask that all cell phones and similar devices be turned off and placed inside backpacks upon entering the school building.
It's important to note that using phones while watching TV often leads to missing important details, requiring rewinding or rewatching. Similarly, students can miss crucial first-time instruction during class if they are distracted by their phones. To maximize learning opportunities, we kindly request your cooperation in ensuring all devices are turned off and stored away during class time.
Students are welcome to use their phones before entering the building and after school. We understand the importance of communication during those times. However, if a student is caught using a phone during the school day, the device will be confiscated and secured in the administrative office. A $15 fee, as outlined in the District's Code of Conduct, must be paid to retrieve the phone.
We understand the importance of staying connected, especially in case of emergencies. Please know that you can always call the school if you need to contact your student. However, to minimize classroom disruptions and maximize learning time, we kindly request that calls be reserved for emergencies only.
We appreciate your support in helping us create a positive learning environment for all students. Please encourage your child to follow these guidelines.
Thank you for your cooperation.
Car rider/Walker parents – To keep our students safe in the road and our drive, please follow the directions of our staff and our safety “No Drop” Zone. Expectations during arrival and dismissal times:
-Do not let your student out of your vehicle in the street. Find a curb to park by or enter into our Car Rider line to drop your student off at the front of the school. Even if the flow of traffic has stopped, do not let your student out of your vehicle.
-Do not park within the cones; this is our No Drop Zone to keep our staff’s line of sight clear to safely cross our walkers.
-Right turns only (in and out of our drive).
-Drive slowly.
-Have patience. Our staff strives to be efficient, but safe when our students are moving throughout the streets and drive.
