Cheetah Newsletter January 22, 2025
Friday is Half Day - 12:35 dismissal!
From the Office
Happy Wednesday Cherrydale Families!
Our schools use proficiency scores from 1 – 3. The proficiency scores are tied to the
standards at each grade level. Our students are assessed against end of year
standard proficiency. It is important that our district provide clear and transparent
information about student progress, achievement, and convey to our students that
learning is a process. Some concepts and skills are more difficult than others to learn.
A score of 1 or 2 while learning a new skill or concept is appropriate and not intended
to be punitive. A score of 3 is the target showing end of year proficiency in a particular
standard.
In the first reporting period, a student may receive a number of “NE” scores on their
report card. This communicates that the standard has yet to be evaluated but will be
before the end of the school year. It is appropriate for students at this time of year to
receive a 1 or 2 as we have just begun to address end of year standards. If a student
receives a 3 in any particular standard, it shows that they have demonstrated end of
year mastery.
It is important to recognize the following when reporting:
3 - Meets standard independently and with consistency demonstrating grade level
knowledge
2- With occasional help, meets some of the standard indicators and demonstrates some
grade level knowledge
1 - With frequent help, meets few of the standard indicators and demonstrates little grade
level knowledge
● All scores (1-3) are assessed against END OF YEAR grade level standards.
● It is very appropriate to have the majority of your students receiving 1 or 2
this time of year as these are end of year standards.
● “NE” is only used if a standard has NOT been addressed.
● A score of 3, 2, or 1 is not “tied into” a specific percentage.
Please reach out to our office or your child's teacher if you have any additional questions regarding report cards. Report cards will be available the first week of February through Skyward. If you would like a paper copy of your child's report card, please contact our main office.
Thank you for your support of our Cheetahs at school and at home!
Warm Regards,
Christine Firth, Principal
