Tonight is Portfolio Night from 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm. Portfolio Night is an opportunity to visit the school & celebrate all the hard work and learning that took place during the school year. This is an open house type event where families are able to come at any time. Feel free to stay 5 minutes or the entire night. The goal of the event is to provide opportunities for families to visit the school and celebrate the successes from the 2023-2024 school year.
Tomorrow is a Noon Dismissal for students in first - fifth grade. There was a noon dismissal scheduled for Friday, January 12th, which was cancelled due to the school district being closed for inclement weather.
DuJardin is hosting a Lunch with a Loved One(s) event on Thursday, May 23, 2024, during the lunch period. Bring a picnic lunch and blanket for you and your child(ren) to eat OUTSIDE on school grounds. Come a little early to pick a spot and then meet your children by the back doors of the building. Click here to RSVP for this event.
Important Notes:
Open to all family members! You are not limited to just one Loved One!
Lunch will begin at 11:55 am for all students.
Kids will enjoy lunch the entire time with their Loved One(s)
May is Mental Health Awareness Month, a time dedicated to raising awareness and understanding about mental health issues. At DuJardin, we recognize the importance of supporting the mental well-being of our students, families, and staff members.
As parents, you play a crucial role in nurturing your child's mental health. It's essential to create an open and supportive environment where your child feels comfortable expressing their thoughts and feelings. Encouraging healthy habits such as regular exercise, nutritious eating, and adequate sleep can also positively impact mental well-being. Here are some suggestions on how you can help support your child's mental well-being:
Open Communication & Active Listening: Encourage your child to talk openly about their thoughts and feelings. Create a safe and non-judgmental environment where they feel comfortable expressing themselves. Take the time to actively listen to your child when they share their concerns or worries. Validate their feelings and offer empathy and understanding. (example: ask your child about their day -Wow & Pow, High & Low, or Glow & Grow).
Establish Routine: Establishing a daily routine can provide stability and predictability, which can help reduce stress and anxiety for both children and adults. (example: Wake up at the same time every day, establish an after school reading/homework time, go to bed at the same time each night).
Promote Healthy Habits: Encourage your child to engage in regular physical activity, eat nutritious foods, and get enough sleep. These habits are essential for maintaining good mental health. (example: family exercise/activity, family mealtime or healthy after-school snack).
Limit Screen Time: While technology can be a valuable tool, excessive screen time can have negative effects on mental health. Set limits on screen time and encourage alternative activities such as reading, playing outside, or spending time with family. (example: weekly family game night - indoor or outdoor!).
Practice Mindfulness: Encourage your child to use mindfulness techniques to regulate their emotions if they are worried, stressed, upset, silly, mad, or uneasy to help manage stress and increase self-awareness. (example: deep breathing, meditation, or yoga, take a break, walk in nature).
Seek Support When Needed: If you notice signs of distress or mental health concerns in your child, don't hesitate to seek support from our school counselors or mental health professionals in the community. Early intervention is key to addressing mental health issues effectively.
If you have any concerns about your child's mental well-being or need additional support, please don't hesitate to reach out to our school social worker or administration. Together, we can work towards ensuring the mental wellness of our entire school community.

Vision and Hearing Screening: Annual vision and hearing screening will take place at DuJardin next week as follows:
Kindergarten: A vision exam is due by May 15, 2024 as one of the school and IDPH health requirements. K students will have a hearing screening.
First Grade/Third Grade: Hearing screening.
Second Grade: Vision and hearing screening.
Students that do not pass a vision screening or that do not pass 2 separate hearing screenings conducted 2 weeks apart will receive a letter home to inform parents so that either an eye exam or a visit to the pediatrician can be scheduled over the summer. We respectfully request that results be shared with the school nurse. Results of these screenings are reported by grade (no specific student information) to the state of Illinois.
