Wishtree Book Project
J.C.C. wrapped up it's whole school book read project today with the final few chapters being read at an all-school assembly this morning. J.C.C. alumni Elizabeth King and her mom, Mrs. Rhonda King, read in person at the 500 person assembly, as well as a reading recording from Shane Kimber, aka OGR Scintilla.
Students were gifted their very own copies of the novel Wishtree by Katherine Applegate thanks to the very generous donations of WestMET Ag and the J.C.C. School Council, who together funded the entire project for our students and staff!
The book brought our staff, students, and community together along a journey of literacy- we read the book at the same time each week together as a whole school, K-12, and many great conversations were sparked over this positive piece of literature.
In May, our own students and staff hung their own wishes on our lobby tree, and in the future, the school has been given a grant that will pay for our very own oak tree to be planted on school property for wishes to come! Thank you to each and every person who contributed to our massive project- we had over 30 guest readers agree to read our novel to us, which included many celebrities, locals, and JCC almuni!
To wrap up our celebration, each student received a homemade cupcake made by the amazing baker Ayslinn Raab! Filling an order of 500 cupcakes is no small feat, and many students declared it "was the best cupcake they ever had!"
