Sep. 29th-Oct. 6th SNYM News
Welcome to the St. Nick's Youth Ministry Update
MORE NEW YEAR, NEW US!
This week the Youth Room got another makeover!
Due to an increase in attendance for EDGE, HSYG, and OCIA (yayyyyyyy!!!!), we found that we needed even more seats in the Youth Room. What a glorious problem to have!
The famous Popcorn Machine has served us well, but sadly it was no longer working and we had to make the hard choice to let it go. We also found a lovely new home for the piano with the Lange Family (thank you for your gracious donation!). Removing these items made space for the wonderful donation of another sofa from Mrs. Shannon (thank you for thinking of us!).
After more moving and rearranging, our Youth Room with SIX couches is ready for everyone to come in and get cozy. And don't worry... the game tables are still there! Be sure to have a look and see if you can find all of the changes that were made since last week. -Mrs. Beth See video below.
Many thanks to Mrs. Shannon, Jack's Dad (aka Rob), Jack, Clay, Adam, Daniel,
Avery, and Father Aiden for their help with all of the moving and heavy lifting!

EDGE - MIDDLE SCHOOL YOUTH GROUP
RECAP FOR SEP 29
Unfortunately we were not able to begin the Bible Timeline for Middle School as planned due to shipping delays, so instead we reviewed the timeline chart and talked more about what we will be covering. We also viewed two videos about the history of the Bible in the Church, and how our Catholic Bibles do not have extra books. See MP4 links below.
We had fun enjoying a special treat (Krispy Kreme donuts!) and FREE TIME together, and practiced lining up in a straight line! See video below.
Many thanks to Justin Renner for joining us again!
COMING UP ON OCT 6
This week EDGE will begin Encounter, the Bible Timeline for Middle School from Ascension Press.
This fall we are going back to the basics and getting more familiar with the Word of God. I have learned that while they know scripture is in the Mass every Sunday, our Youth don't always understand it. This will be an opportunity to have the Bible explained in ways that are more relatable to them and help them to practice using it outside of the Mass.
At our first day of EDGE I showed them examples of what we will be using and I was so happy to see their curiosity and interest for this program and the Bible! -Mrs. Beth
(see the promotional video below for a preview of Encounter.)
HSYG - HIGH SCHOOL YOUTH GROUP
RECAP FOR SEP 29
Because we were unable to begin the Bible Timeline for High School as planned due to shipping delays, we instead reviewed the timeline chart and talked more about what it will be covering. We viewed two videos about the history of the Bible in the Church, and how our Catholic Bibles do not have extra books, then discussed prior knowledge and what we learned from them. See MP4 links below.
We then played Name a Book of the Bible! Based on elimination, pairs of Teens were given a letter and had to name a book of the Bible in speed rounds. Many named books quickly and many were stumped. We will definitely be playing this again later!
They had lots of treats to choose from between Krispy Kreme donuts and the FOUR cakes Solomon brought to share! We finished with FREE TIME and closed in prayer led by Mr. McGilvary.
Although it was after most of the Teens had left, we had a nice surprise when Fr. Aiden stopped in and showed us his ping-pong skills! See video below.
Many thanks to Shannon & Rob Blackburn for blessing us with their ongoing assistance in HSYG!
COMING UP ON OCT 6
This week the Teens will begin Venture, the Bible Timeline for High School from Ascension Press.
Last year they expressed their enjoyment of covering the Gospels during our Lent Study and how they looked forward to more like it! Because of that I felt it was important to fulfill their interest and desire for the Sacred Scripture and found Venture.
At our first day of HSYG I showed them examples of what we will be using. They not only responded with their approval, but also their excitement for this program. I am so excited for them and with them! -Mrs. Beth
(see the promotional video below for a preview of Venture.)

Per the Diocese policy for the safety of everyone, a minimum of 2 certified adults are required to be present for all Youth Ministry activities.
Please prayerfully consider completing your certification, and/ or asking individuals who you think would be a willing volunteer. Or, you can submit suggestions for me to contact. Thank you. -Beth
Many thanks to Shannon & Rob Blackburn for blessing us with their ongoing assistance in HSYG!
REQUIRED BY THE DIOCESE
All youth ministry volunteers must have current certification for the course of Serving Vulnerable Populations and a Criminal History Record Check on file with the Diocese.
