A Note from the Principal
This week our 4th graders will visit the Rock Island Arsenal Lock and Dam on Wednesday. One hour will be spent at each the Arsenal Museum and the Lock and Dam while lunch will be eaten at Memorial Park. We hope they enjoy this amazing experience brought to us from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
As you may have heard, a family in town suffered a house fire that claimed the lives of the father and his young daughter. Both Lombard and Silas Willard, their home schools, are putting on a drive to collect monetary donations as well as needed items. If you are interested in helping support this family, visit https://gofund.me/7db905cb. Donations can also be brought to the Galesburg Christian School or Big Katz in Knoxville. We will wear blue on Wednesday to show our support.
The end of first quarter will quickly be upon us. On Friday, October 11th we will dismiss one hour early so that teachers have an opportunity to work on report cards. That will lead us into Fall Break where we will have no school from October 14th - 18th. We hope that this break is a chance for you to spend quality time as a family.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Coate

How do we grade at the elementary level? We use a standards-based report card instead of a report card with letter grades. Elementary report cards are issued at the end of each grading period. They are intended to give an evaluation of the scholastic achievement and work habits of each child. Parents should examine all cards carefully since each child is rated not only on academic progress, but also progress in development of social attitudes and work habits.
We use a 4,3,2,1 system to assess a student's mastery of standards.
4 = Exceeding State and District Standards
3 = Meeting State and District Standards
2 = Approaching State and District Standards
1 = Not Meeting State and District Standards
