The eLeader
The official digital newsletter of La Porte ISD
Greetings, La Porte ISD Family. Today is a great day to be a Bulldog!
STAAR exams began last week at the high school level, and testing will take place on every campus this week. As I continue to remind our students, this test is important, but it does not define you. Your value lies in your hard work, your dedication and your unique abilities. And to our amazing educators, your impact extends far beyond the classroom walls. Thank you for nurturing the potential in each and every student.
I am grateful to everyone who is committed to ensuring excellence among our children in academics and other activities, and I wish you great success as you embark on the challenges ahead.
Superintendent Shout-outs
- The Mighty Bulldog Indoor Drumline on Saturday earned runner-up in the state! Such excellence is one of many reasons that La Porte ISD is recognized nationally for music education. Congratulations to all our phenomenal performers and their directors!
- A huge shout-out to our fifth and sixth grade GT students, who have completed our inaugural Project Launch, a collaboration between La Porte ISD and the University of Houston-Clear Lake that provides students the opportunity to take fun and enlightening courses of their choosing from university professors and graduate students. This wonderful program is unique to
La Porte ISD, and we are excited to see it grow in the years to come. - Countless hours of hard work and dedication culminated in the annual La Porte Livestock Show & Rodeo Association's Annual Livestock Auction this past week, where thousands of dollars were earned by our FFA students for their projects. Thank you to everyone who supported our wonderful students, and a big shout-out to the students (and their parents) for months and months of perseverance.
- Speaking of our FFA students, I want to offer a mega shout-out to everyone at our Administration Building, including our Cabinet, who donated funds that allowed us to buy a lamb at the auction. We all know how hard our students work on these projects, and we were honored and pleased to support their efforts!
- La Porte High School is known across Texas as a track & field powerhouse. Several Lady Dawgs and Bulldogs student-athletes continued our legacy of excellence last week by qualifying for the UIL Regionals. Way to go!
- I had such a wonderful time seeing the Chatos Spring Show this past week, which featured other student groups as well. Wow! What a fantastic performance!
- Finally, I hope you had a chance to witness Heritage Elementary School students sing the national anthem at the Houston Astros game on Saturday. This annual tradition not only puts La Porte ISD on a national stage, but it also provides our students with unique lifelong memories.
Thank you for all that you do. I hope you have a great week!
With La Porte pride,
Walter Jackson, Ed.D.
