Jaguar Journal
January 2025
Jepson Families,
Happy 2025! We are so excited to welcome students back to campus after Winter Break. As we embark on a new Semester/Quarter 3, please remember that many student schedules will change. We know this can be difficult for students, but our teachers will be there to support them through the transition!
I always like to remind our students that a new quarter presents a blank slate! As grades reset, this can feel like a fresh start. Thank you for the encouragement that you continue to provide to your student! Quarter 2 Report Cards will be sent out via Parent Square on January 15th.
Go Jags!
Melissa Mainini
Principal

AVID for Current 8th Graders:
Attention 8th Grade Parents!
Vacaville High School's Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) Program is still accepting applications for current 8th grade student's! Applications are due by January 10th. At VUSD, we have a 4-year college preparation system to help students who want to go to college after high school but may need someone at home to help them or know all the steps to take to get there.
The mission of AVID is to ensure that ALL students will succeed in a rigorous curriculum, complete their A-G college preparatory classes, participate in extracurricular activities (such as service learning, clubs, athletics, etc.), and earn admission to a four-year college/university by their Senior Year.
Most AVID students fit the profile below:
* In the academic middle (2.5 or higher GPA)
* High - Average test scores
* Good attendance
* Demonstrates good citizenship in and out of the classroom
* Has the desire and determination to work hard and succeed
* Able to work well with others
* First in their family to go to college
If you think AVID is the right fit for your student, there are a few things the student will need to do:
1. Apply online: http://bit.ly/vhsavidapp25
2. Get-to-Know-you Session with Mrs. Sanchez (VHS AVID Coordinator), Ms. Gina Marwick (AVID Counselor), or another VHS staff member from 1/14-1/15. The student will receive a notification with their session date/time at a later time.
Feel free to email Ms. Sanchez at rsanchez@vacavilleusd.org if you have any questions.
