Banned Book Week 2018!
Banning Books Silences Stories!
Each of us has a story to tell, and some of our stories will make others uncomfortable. The idea behind Banned Book Week is that all stories are important. We may make the choice to not engage in certain stories that make us uncomfortable or are not right for us at the time. However, that story may be exactly the thing that someone else needs to make it through the day. The past few years have seen an increase the number of diverse books being published (this is an great thing) and an increase in the number of diverse books being challenged (this is a terrible thing). I am currently reading a challenged book, stop by the library to find out which one. Check out the displays in the library celebrating your right to read.
“Banning books gives us silence when we need speech. It closes our ears when we need to listen. It makes us blind when we need sight.” ― Stephen Chbosky

A Service Project
1. We need plastic bags. Each mat takes at least 700 bags. Bags should be clean, and without holes.
2. Volunteers to fold, cut, and tie bags. School service hours can be granted if you help with this process after school.
3. If you would like to learn how to knit or crochet, please see Mrs. Boyle.
