Dear Robert Hunter Families,
This upcoming week, we celebrate the Week of Respect. During this special week, our students will focus on the importance of being respectful in all they do, both inside and outside of the classroom. We believe that fostering a culture of respect and empathy is essential for creating a positive and inclusive learning environment. Your support in promoting these values is invaluable. Together, we can help our students develop the social and emotional skills they need to thrive academically and personally.
Please see the letter from our counselors here and flyer below for spirit days that will take place each day during the Week of Respect. Please note that our spirit days look a little different from other schools due to Picture Day taking place on Thursday.
October is a busy month at RH! Our PTO Walkathon is fast approaching and will take place on Oct. 25th. Please read more about the Walkathon in the PTO section below, including information about how to volunteer to assist and cheer on our walkers! Thank you for your support of this wonderful fundraiser for our school.
We look forward to seeing families at other upcoming events, such as the PTO Halloween Trunk or Treat, our whole school Halloween parade, and class parties.
Thank you to everyone who has donated costumes for our school costume drive. The deadline for donations is this upcoming Wednesday.
As a reminder, Thursday, Oct. 10th is picture day.
Have a great week!
Warm regards,
Jessica Braynor and Lindsay Shirvanian

Buddy Classes
Every class is paired with a “buddy class” at Robert Hunter, with younger students paired with older "buddies" from higher grades. This program fosters community, mentorship, and social growth among our students. Buddies engage in various activities together, such as reading, art projects, outdoor games, and collaborative learning. These activities are designed to encourage teamwork, build communication skills, and promote positive peer interactions. Buddy classes will meet monthly, starting this month.
School Climate Team
The Anti-Bullying Bill of Rights law requires each school to establish a school climate team and appoint an anti-bullying specialist, who leads this team. The Robert Hunter School Climate Team is led by our school counselor and Anti-Bullying Specialist Nicole Del Duca and includes many other RH staff members. We are looking for a few parents to join our team to share your perspectives and ideas in ensuring a positive school climate at Robert Hunter. Please complete the form here if you are interested. Meetings will be held virtually from 8:30-8:45 once per month
Laminating and Copying Volunteers
If you are interested in helping with making copies/laminating for teachers please complete the form here.
Halloween Parade
We are planning our Halloween parade for 9:45 on Oct. 31st. Children should come to school in their costumes, should they choose to participate. As you are choosing costumes, please remember that plastic weapons, such as guns and swords, may NOT be brought to school as part of a costume. Additionally, please be mindful that scary or revealing costumes leave lasting impressions on young children. Your cooperation to keep our parade enjoyable for all is greatly appreciated. If you would prefer your child not to remain in their costume all day, please send in alternative clothing for him/her to change into after the parade. Families are invited to watch the parade on the blacktop if it is held outside. If it rains, we would need to move our parade indoors without family viewing.
Halloween Class Parties
Classroom parents who are assisting with class parties must connect with teachers prior to the event for approved food and activities. Food items and ingredients must be shared with the teacher at least one week prior to the celebration. You must adhere to class allergy restrictions as well as the district wellness policy HERE in regards to food.
This includes:
Offering snacks that do not contain sugar as the first ingredient
No candy or spun sugar products
Juices offered should be 100% fruit juice.
If you would prefer that your child not participate in Halloween activities, please email your child’s teacher, so that we can plan alternate activities.
Conferences
Parent conferences will be held Nov. 21-26 (These will all be early dismissal days). Teachers will be reaching out regarding open conference times later this month. If you would like to request a translator for your conference, please complete the form here by Oct. 14th. You only need to complete this form if you are requesting a translator.
A Note from Mrs. Cunniff, School Nurse:
Hi Parents! Cold and virus season is upon us already! Please do not send cough drops or cold medication with your child. In the event your child needs a cough drop, I already stock them in the health office and can provide one if needed. Cough and cold medication can not be administered at school without a doctor's order. Thank you so much and stay well!
STEM at Home
Ms. Tremel (STEM, G&T Math, and Stretch teacher) will offer STEM challenges for students to try at home. Check out the challenge for this month here. Please send a picture of your finished project by October 30. We will highlight some of the designs in our next newsletter!
Halloween Costume Drive
3rd Graders in Mrs. Hadzimichalis’s class are running a Halloween costume drive. Please see the flyer below. Families can drop off costume donations at Robert Hunter by Oct. 9, and families can pick up costumes Oct. 10 from 4:00-5:00.
