College Fair at MHMS
Merrol Hyde Magnet School hosted over fifty colleges and universities at their annual college fair on 9/13. The college fair was a collaborative event planned by Mrs. Lewis and her Honors Event Planning & Management students, Mrs. Maribel Gadams, and Ms. Brooke Scanlon (MHMS Career Coach).
The students successfully co-coordinated the MHMS Career Fair, significantly elevating the event's quality. Their objectives included:
- Making the event welcoming and rewarding for college representatives
- Enhancing the quality of interactions between college reps and students
- Boosting student confidence and knowledge through informative materials, guiding questions, and exposure to a variety of colleges aligned with their interests or intended majors
The students gained valuable real-world experience by addressing every aspect of event planning. They managed limited parking by planning for extra space, designed signage for traffic flow and venue directions, and created goodie bags with MHMS promotional materials and hand-written notes for college representatives. They even collaborated with fellow student entrepreneur Mattie Graham, owner of MEG's Sweet Shoppe, who provided mini fudge pies for the goodie bags.
