Elementary Update
Elementary Character Trait of the Month is Responsibility. Each teacher will select a student from their homeroom that consistently demonstrates a high level of accountability, reliability, and integrity. Often these students are punctual, complete tasks on time, and take ownership of their actions, which is crucial for personal growth and development. A responsible student is an individual that is equipped to handle challenges, make informed decisions, and positively contribute to the school community. Those selected will have their picture displayed on the Wall of Fame through the month April.
Spring conferences are scheduled for next week. Reminder: there will be no school March 28th and March 29th for conferences. If you have not scheduled your child’s conference, please schedule via Skyward or return the conference slip to your child’s teacher. P.I.E. is having a bake sale during conferences. The 4th grade is celebrating March Madness by participating in a Book Madness bracket. You may be asking yourself, what is Book Madness? Book Madness starts with a pre-selected list of books that will compete against each other. Following the tradition of March Madness, the first round of Book Madness consists of 16 books. There are 8 games in the first round, each game has 2 books that are matched up against each other. With the help of staff and volunteers the books will be read to each class. After the 2 books are read, the students get the opportunity to vote on their top choice. Their top choice will advance to the second round. In the second round, the 8 victorious books will compete for the title of favorite. This will continue until only 2 books remain. The final 2 books will go head to head until finally one reigns victorious.
Stay tuned to find out which one will walk away with the title of, Book Madness Champion.
The Awesome Sterling McLaughlin - Reardan Senior
From 2nd Grade Teacher Teresa James:
I do want to give an extra special shout out to Sterling who has volunteered in our classroom the past few months. Sterling is an exemplary student and person. He is fabulous with the students and even enjoys jumping in and being the teacher sometimes which the students adore. He has a positive attitude, is fun, respectful, goes with the flow, shows school spirit and pride and works well with the students in all areas. I cannot say how grateful I am for his assistance each day. Thank you for sharing these students with us in our classroom. We are very grateful.
New Student Registration - Kelly Lillengreen
The Reardan Edwall School District is thrilled to announce that student registration for the 2024-2025 academic year is now officially open! This marks an exciting opportunity for new students to secure their places within our vibrant educational community. Parents and guardians are encouraged to complete the registration process promptly, ensuring a smooth transition and access to essential resources for their children. From kindergarten to high school, we welcome all learners with open arms, committed to providing a nurturing environment that fosters academic excellence and personal growth.
Kindergarteners will need verification of age and immunizations. We also have a Transition to Kindergarten program for those students who miss the kindergarten cut off date of August 31st. Please reach out to the Elementary Office for more specific information on Transition to Kindergarten and Kindergarten.
For the convenience of parents and guardians, the Reardan Edwall School District offers two convenient options for student registration. The first option is online registration through our user-friendly online portal, accessible at reardan.net. Through this secure platform, families can submit all required information and documents, streamlining the registration process with just a few clicks. Alternatively, for those who prefer traditional methods, paper registration packets are available for pickup at our school offices.
If you're choosing to enroll your child into the Reardan Edwall School District from outside our district boundaries, please ensure that you complete the necessary choice transfer paperwork. You can find the required form and information at https://eds.ospi.k12.wa.us/ChoiceTransferRequest. We encourage families considering this option to submit their choice transfer paperwork and their registration materials concurrently. If you have any questions or need assistance with the choice transfer process, please don't hesitate to reach out to our administrative staff for guidance and support.

Security Update - Brad Eylar
Parents,
Today I wanted to bring up the risks with online gaming. Without getting into the debate on whether gaming is bad or certain games are too violent, I want to bring awareness to playing online with strangers. Games have evolved from when we were kids. No longer are they just playing a programmed computer. Online gaming has reached internationally and many times without any regulation. Multiplayer games allow more than one person to enter the same environment connected through the internet, sometimes referenced as Massive Multiplayer Online Games (MMO or MMOG). This platform allows them to play, speak, and message other players, essentially making every game a different type of social media. Like any online gathering point, this opens a danger for strangers trying to interact with your children. There is little to no means to verify player identity, allowing online predators to pose as children. Other concerns can be cyberbullying, identity theft, or viruses. Please try and bring up the following topics with your child in regards to online gaming.
· Who they can play with, playing with friends in a closed environment
· Not sharing personal information with people online
· Privacy settings for each game and how to enable them
· How to delete or block people that become abusive or disrespectful
· What things to tell you as their parent
· How to tell if someone is pretending to be a kid, and that this happens
· Why they should never meet with someone they meet online, and to tell you if someone asks
Just like IMDB is a great resource for movies and TV, here is a good one for video games

My biggest recommendation is to keep an open conversation with your children about online gaming and keep gaming consoles in a common area such as a family room.
