Principal's Update: The 2025-26 Budget
Kenwood's budget allocation was shared with me this week, and I'm feeling optimistic. I'm meeting with the Kenwood staff on Tuesday morning to discuss our budget possibilities and priorities, and with Site Council on Tuesday night to do the same. I'll provide detailed information to the larger community in the Kenwood Courier on February 27. Thank you for your patience and support!
Kenwood Read-A-Thon ends on February 27! 📖
Students have been challenged to read (or be read to) for an average of at least 20 minutes per day and track their minutes on their reading calendar. Every student who turns in their forms on February 27 will receive a participation prize. Those who meet the goal of 20 minutes a day win a mini prize and grand prizes will be awarded for the most minutes read per grade. Additionally, classes that reach their reading goal will win a special class party! And don't forget that Principal Johnson will put on her roller skates and kiss a llama if we reach our school-wide goal!

Ready for a cozy Read-A-Thon Finale? Wear your favorite pajamas on Thursday Feb. 27th and snuggle up with a good book for a day of reading and fun!

Resources Related to Head Lice
If you suspect or know your child has head lice, please visit the District's Health Services website for information on policies, protocols, and treatment recommendations (go to the side bar on the right related to Head Lice Information). Kenwood has treatment shampoo and combs available to send home with students upon their caregiver's request. Contact the Health Office at 612-668-2766.

Kenwood Super Summer: Adventure Awaits! 🌟
Kenwood Super Summer camp registration is just around the corner—starting Sunday, February 23 at 5 PM! We’re excited to invite Kenwood families to join us for a summer filled with amazing camps. Whether your child is interested in fishing, horseback riding, or even a Taylor Swift camp, there’s something for everyone. Plus, we’re offering several brand-new camps this year!
We can’t wait to see your child enjoy a fun, memorable summer filled with new adventures. Be sure to mark your calendars and get ready to register!

ALC - After School Classes: Registration Open!
We are excited to offer a spring session of after school classes for 1st through 5th graders!
We have some new classes and some favorites that are returning. Registration is happening now- your student was given a registration form this week. Extra registration forms are available in the office.
The spring session runs from Tuesday, March 4 through Thursday, May 8. See the class descriptions on the backside of the registration form for information about which days classes meet-- NO after school classes on Thursday, March 27.
Look for a letter next week to confirm your student’s enrollment in an after school class.

Fourth Grade MathMasters Team – March & April 2025
Do you like math? Join our 4th grade Math Masters team! It’s free, it’s fun, and you’ll learn new things while on a team with your friends and classmates. Practices will begin the week of March 3rd and continue until the competition on April 25th. If you'd like more info and to register, please complete the Interest Form by Wednesday February 26th. Girls on the Run
Exciting news: Girls on the Run is returning to Kenwood for a spring season! Girls on the Run is an afterschool program that uses the power of being active to prepare 3rd - 5th grade girls and non-binary kids for a lifetime of self-respect and healthy living. Over the course of the 8-week, 16-lesson season, participants will learn life-changing lessons about healthy friendships, teamwork, decision-making, self-respect and more, all while preparing to complete a 5K. Open to all 3rd - 5th grade kids and non-binary/gender expansive youth; no previous running experience required, and generous financial aid is available. Registration is open at www.gotrmn.org Our season will be each Monday & Thursday 4:05 - 5:30 p.m. from April 7 - May 31/June 1, culminating with a celebratory Girls on the Run 5K the weekend of May 31/June 1. Space is limited so register now! Winter Gear Reminder
Our students love playing outside during recess! To ensure they can enjoy the fresh air and sunshine even in cooler weather, please send your kids to school with winter gear: hat, gloves, snow pants, snow boots and coat. If you need assistance with winter gear, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us. Call the main office at 612-668-2760 and ask for Ms. Victoria.

Minneapolis Bouldering Project is hosting a Kid's Day on March 28th from 9am-3pm. Kid's day offers youth (ages 5-12) the opportunity to rock climb, play games, and make crafts! See the attached flyer.
